Ours found a piece of paper in their sand this afternoon and acted like it was the coolest thing since mealworms.
I got to it before anybody had consumed it but still...they thought they had found the motherload of treats.

Well what was disturbing and entertaining at the same time is when I found a litter of baby mice. Most of the chickens weren't interested, but it only takes one to grab and run for the show to start. I didn't stay for dessert.
We feed off our excess mice to the chickens. Yes, I breed mice. I have snakes and it's just cheaper and easier to raise my owner feeders.Well what was disturbing and entertaining at the same time is when I found a litter of baby mice. this is kinda like the talk about the lettus, same thing basically. Not much nutrition.... in the big picture.
If you look at what a chicken eats naturally, it's going to be a very varied diet consisting heavily of grass, grains, bugs, with some fruits, veggies, and various foliage thrown in. The idea is to replicate that, or even improve on it. I like the corn basically as a treat, same with the sunflower heads (and partly at least because I can produce those myself). Mealworms are an excellent addition for protein and I have got to get it together to start a mealworm farm. I'm a real nutrition nut -- it runs in the family -- wish the "exercise fanatic" bug did, too, lol! -- so my chickens probably eat a lot better than some people, for the same reason I like growing my own food as much as possible. I can maximize nutrient intake of my veggies and animals so when I eat it, I know I'm getting the biggest nutrient-per-calorie bang for my buck possible, so to speak
What kind of cereal did you offer them? lol
