Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

oh, I guess I should have mentioned CR has offered to send me some eggs. I am just laughing at myself about how worried I am about her and her eggs. I mean really!!! hens go broody all the time and are disapointed. I am getting way too attached to them..I probably should have had human children so I could have something worthy to worry about!!!
If you are interested, I have a bunch of OE/EE eggs that I can send you just for the cost of shipping. DH wormed the hens so we can't eat them. You wouldn't have to worry too much if she didn't stay on them long enough to hatch as you wouldn't have much in them. Or find a local store that carries fertile eggs (Whole Foods or Trader Joes for example) and put those under her - it would be quick and she might get a few to hatch.

One reason I started our small farm was because I got pregnant and couldn't do the hours required more from a time of day perspective. Luckily I'm pretty decent with gardening though I definitely am more than at home in the kitchen. It's just the way my brains wired. It's like numbers and theory to mathematicians. It just makes sense.

Friends get so annoyed with me because they want recipes..... Often I can give them an ingredient list but that's about it for the most part. One of these days I'm going to write things down and compose an actual crazy chicken lady cookbook!

Okay, name one person that couldn't live on warm, gooey cinnamon rolls!

Deb

Hee! I try to, sometimes. They're great bait too. I invite friends over, they're like "did you make cinnamon rolls?"

Right. It's the difference between cooking as a craft (which is where I'm at...) and cooking as a form of expression for lack of a better way to put it. It's an almost instinctive knowledge of your materials (often gained totally uninstinctively and with a ton of study!) that just... I don't know how to put it, but as a cook I definitely know the difference between cooks and chefs. And I ain't a chef! :p

I have some eggs due to hatch In a day or two... Could I sneak those under her? Am I supposed to bring her inside, even though temps aren't freezing here?
I would sneak those chicks from babymakes6 under her, at night like someone said before.... especially if she's a firsttime broody, then you can find out how good a mom she is and always put them in the brooder if you have to, unless you can access some cheap eggs, I wouldn't risk putting eggs I wanted under an "unproven" broody, unless you can watch her close and put them in the bator if she gives up...

You know that means you have to buy our silence by sending us each a set of hatching eggs, right?

Deb

Haha, ditto that=)

In fact you don't want me to send you eggs..... you want me to send you a finished processed bird to eat!!!!

Mine, mine, mine!! And I live close to you, as the crow flies, anyway....

I think that means you are a very good parent. Half of our hospital admissions right now are the same thing. ER is full, gonna be a busy nite for me. It's gonna be a bad year for the flu, etc. bad strain coming from what I've been reading

I've heard the same thing, I also work in the hospital, and my pediatrician said they were worried about a crazy season... I think you sound like an awesome parent, just keep a paper bag close by you can hyperventilate into so you don't pass out if you get anxious, lol...

Sorry I keep doing the big quotes, I just can't remember all the stuff I want to comment on!!

Snowing here... and dipping down to the single digits within a week... see.... no shipped eggs for me!!

I have a friend looking for second generation OE eggs. She got a dozen and set them under a broody and did not have any hatch. This time I am going to try incubating some for her.
