If they are congested, have a humidifier going to help them breathe. The dry air could worsen the congestion and cause them to gag. In young children, the gagging could cause them to throw up.

We do have a cool air humidifier running. In fact, we asked for one for Christmas just for this reason.

Heck, I'D live in your coop.................it looks like heaven to me too!

I'm one of those geeky chef type people too.......................I could send back a nice leg of pasture raised dorper lamb (or my favorite, either breast or shank).

:drool braised shanks are probably my all time favorite dish!

even you guys are gonna think I am crazy:

I am surprised at how sad this makes me about the eggs not being fertile because of the hen.... I know I am anthropomorphising here, but I feel like she wants to be a mom and I didn't give her the right eggs to sit on and how disapointed she's going to be when they don't hatch. ...LOL.

can you tell first time chicken owner/egg hatcher?

Maybe you can find some day old chicks and slip them under her, and she will never know her eggs were not fertile

Hiya Noel!!! It's my magpie ducky! The crossbreeds didn't develop :( But if I'd had to pick just one, she'd have been the one I picked so it's all good!

Two happy, healthy little basque fluffballs upstairs, too :) They're the cutest little things!

oh, I guess I should have mentioned CR has offered to send me some eggs. I am just laughing at myself about how worried I am about her and her eggs. I mean really!!! hens go broody all the time and are disapointed. I am getting way too attached to them..I probably should have had human children so I could have something worthy to worry about!!!

LOL! I have a geeky chef friend, too, which is why I wanted them as well -- he's run a number of well-rated "localvore" restaurants and bistros. Always fantasized about opening a place with him! I provide the raw goods, he turns them into magic :)

I wouldn't go so far as to say I love to garden, hate to cook -- but I know where my skill set lies and it's not in the kitchen. There are a handful of things I've gotten good at by sheer determination and repetition (cinnamon rolls, cheesecakes, and spaghetti sauce) -- helps when it's something you really, really like to eat! But really good chefs? They do magic. I just create things that are edible... okay, except for cheesecakes and cinnamon rolls :)
