I swear there's a chicken under all that fur. Really!

Don't you mess with my brother!

My two marraduna basques from pastrygirl that made it :) (totally not the fault of packing! Her packing was gorgeous. I messed up

Yep, she's a bigmouth :)

Very pretty, though -- and she knows it!

With -- I think -- her brother :)

They're actually just about the same size. Did I mention how lousy my phone-camera is???

My three yokohamas, still in solitary :) (They proved to be VERY delicate -- the youngest was about 14 hours old when I first moved them from the incubator to the brooder. Two promptly died. Like, in five minutes. Just WHUMP. I nipped the survivors back into the 'bator and am waiting till they're a week old. Then we'll try again.)

Lots and lots of pretty chickies!!!

(BTW, it's not really as crowded in there as it looks. They just all twenty-odd of them have to run to the back corner whenever I open the cage...

Just out of curiosity, how often do any of you put vitamins and electrolytes in your chickens water? I am just wanting to see all the different "practices" that are out there. I learn so much from all of you!

I have had horses since I was two, have trained and ridden all sorts of horses I was too stupid to stay off of, but the only thing I have ever had broken is my nose...twice...both times by one of my dogs!

Can I ask you guys a candling question? I had 2 eggs not hatch this last batch and both have a normal air cell, dark chick filling up to air cell with just a thin rim of fluid, vessels receeded and no internal pip noted in either. Presuming they are dead, they are 2-3 days past the ones that hatched. In both, there is a clear "second air cell" area noted about 1/2 the size of the aircell, centered on one side of the egg touching the air cell at the low end. What is that? Haven't opened the eggs yet, just curious if this was one of those "oh, that's XXX" type of things.

OMG, Herducks, you weren't exaggerating??? Ack! You poor thing! I thought "broke" was poetic license...

And yeah I know, Bettacreek, but I do feel bad for the dogs sometimes. They get all excited and happy and end up hurting someone accidentally because they're excited and happy, and you can see the guilt in their eyes and the confusion -- "How did it all go so wrong?" They're doofs.

Hurley, I've never seen a completely separate area like that. I've seen the air cell extend downward along one side of the shell pretty often. However, I'm a relative novice here -- there's folks who know a TON more than I do! Maybe they've seen that...

I put a splash of apple cider vinegar in the adults' water every time I change it. Once a week, I put a little vitamin C in instead because I'm a health nut like that. I also give 'em yeast and wheat germ for treats :)

Never done the electrolytes yet. With the babies, I've tried giving them the grow-gel. No one ever seems to eat it. But again, you have more chicken experience than I do, I think!

Oh hey -- package going in the mail tomorrow :) Just so ya know! My check finally got here...
