I guess I have been trying too hard. Thanks to everyone here, I now have breeds that I have never had before. I have been trying to keep them apart so I could watch how each breed grows, keep track of male and female, that kind of stuff. I have been tempted to build a "chick" pen in the middle of the barn and put them all together. I bought tiny colored zip ties to put on different breeds to tell them apart, but haven't been able to make myself put them on those tiny, tiny legs. I have also worried about them picking on each other. Should I just put them all together??
Put them together and use the zip ties. That's what I use and I will if I have the rhodebars and CCL hatch together. I've heard they look alike when hatched.

So here are my new babies: A quad of White Bresse. A bit dirty from the trip but I absolutely love them. The rooster is already crowing, if that's what you would call that horrible noise.

They are Beautiful! They have such pretty faces... He looks a little down in the dumps - maybe he needs "crowing" lessons......

No, I got the smallest zip ties I could find at Home Depot. Then as they grow I put larger sizes on them. It's like having a little bracelet.

I have 9 colors and they are truly tiny zip ties. I guess I'll go with that and keep a close eye to make sure they are not too tight. Do you put them on the ground, or on concrete, or ????

I wouldn't put them on concrete. If you put them on the ground just make sure they have a nice thick layer of bedding. How old are they?

I have chicks from 4 hours old to 3 months old. I have never put anything on concrete, but I have looked at a lot of pictures. I keep them on wire with "nobby" soft plastic shelf liner.

Well, definitely don't put the 4 hour old with the 3 month old. Too big of a difference in size. The 3 month olds should be ready to go outside.

ok, how old do the Bresse need to be to be processed for a good dressed weight?
