Well, really just 3. they are very pretty. The one with gold/copper around its neck, the one with silver around its neck, and there is one that I thought was lav orp at first because I did get some more lav orps from Nellie. It isn't. It is stunning to look at. The one with gold/copper looks to be a hedamora, but smooth coat. I don't know enough about them to think the rest may be. I just happened to see a pic on the hedemora thread that looks like the one I have. These mystery chickens (not chicks anymore), are very beautiful. If they were Hedemora, I would have to do some serious talking to hubby to get the keep them. I don't think that he would think having chickens needing AC would be an investment. LOL

Do you have a pic. I received 6 of these in a chick pkg from GFF and a few of them almost looked like Copper Marans however were smaller. Also the comb dark colored and shorter with very dark legs. Very sweet and curious.

Yes chick math I like that, we sold 3 LO AND a breeding quad oc rir. Now we put 42 barred rocks in bator and 7 icelandics, 2 sfh, 2 blrw, 5 coronations, and 16 WO. I THINK THAT ADDS UP

Good Morning All

Got up and before I had coffee I put eggs in incubator. 14 BCM, 6 Silver Phoenix, 4 Naked Neck, 6 White Silkies, 14 SUPRISE eggs and 8 Australorp. WHAT A STRANGE MIX..... I have NO IDEA where I'm going to put them all. I need to downsize on the number of breeds I have, but I don't know where to start. I love them all. AND, I still have new breeds coming this spring from the swap

I really need intervention - I just keep hatching and trading and buying and hubby can't keep up with new pens. Being a chicken lover is hard work!!

Nice to set here and read about others with the same problems = we are not a help group, we are an enabling group!! At least I have learned the new Chicken Math - It helps when I have to explain my addiction to anyone....HA!

I have decided I hate the town I live in. It is not the cold, or the snow, or even the fact the sun only comes out one day in eight during the winter, it is the blasted never ending WIND!!! 40+ mph winds last night. Winds will stay between 20-25 mph all day today. I have lived all over the country, but this is the windiest place I have ever been!!! Chickens are tucked in next to the house for the day.

Krafty, here's one of my Hedemora. I've got the heat light on but the coop door open. They all like to sit under the light though.

Morning everyone -

I know most of you don't know me very well... I am fairly new to chickens. I do have a question i was hoping you could help me with. I know this may not be the right place, but i have been stalking you all for so long, I feel like i can trust you.

The other day i posted these pictures (in another thread) asking if my hen Oreo was molting.

The answer I received was "yes" and then someone posted she was going to die with in a week. My head is telling me that is wrong... but when you see it in writing....

anyway - can you please comment and let me know if indeed I need to be concerned about this molting hen (if that's what it is...) and the temps outside? I live in NH - supposed to get pretty cold this week.

Thanks!

Unless she has mites/lice...looks like molt to me.

P.S. Birds don't die from molting.

At this point I just keep all LF, and they can run together until I want to breed them. I don't need multiple pens doing it that way. Thank goodness! As I'm regrouping with the new chickens, i'm keeping the split chicken house for all the roos plus assorted girls. Girls I'm getting ready to breed will be at the other chicken house and pasture with the calves. When they've been there long enough, I will pop some into the two breeding pens, bring up the appropriate roos, and more girls to separate from the boys for a bit. I can only have two breeding groups going this way....until I find a couple more good used kennels....but that limitation is good for me! Otherwise I probably wouldn't sell eating eggs at all! I'd just want to hatch, hatch, hatch! All the eggs from the split pen will be sold for eating eggs. I can worm them when they get their turns in the breeding groups, or in the girls-only henhouse.

At least, I'm hoping this new plan works. Hubby HAS offered to build me another chicken house and subdivide pasture, but I'd like to hold off until I make some decisions as to the breeds I really want to keep. I could potentially run five big groups....say, 50 birds each....plus breeding groups and meat birds. Hmmmm....six. It's constantly in flux around here. The plans change daily!
