Yeah... anything not admitted to the SOP or if it has a DQ it is an EE... especially if you run them together.  Even Lavender are really EE in the eyes of the SOP.  But PROJECT Ams are looked at different.

As are chocolates. I had to remind a local breeder who knows better than that today. She was mad at me because it cost we a sale but as I stated in the group, its not fair to sell someone something without properly informing them.

She wasn't selling chocolates btw. She was selling cuckoo Ams.

As much as eggs cost, I wanted to be as informed as possible....

Heh - I feel bad for whining about our upcoming week:

I'd gladly trade forecasts with you!
so I have 3.5 dozen eggs to set tonight and I'm hoping in 3 weeks my incubator will be off until April.

Yeah sorry it's been crazy round here with the little ones being sick.

So the necropsy on the cockerel came back as Mareks. There was lymphoma in the blood and advanced lesions on organs. He also had very high amounts of coccidodosis in the stool. So sadly they say that he was shipped with these issues as he was only in my care for 3 days before he was euthanized and also completely quarantined away from any other birds. The others are potential carriers so I can't put them anywhere near my other flocks as they've never had any symptoms of Mareks. Luckily we have enough land and resource to have them in an area that's no where near our current birds. We are just going to keep practicing vigilant biosecurity and raise them to laying age. We'll hatch out as many chicks as we possibly can and fill any egg orders.

Interestingly I've spent a GREAT deal of time on the phone with avian vets and pathologists and they've all said that most flocks in the US, especially those that have outdoor/freerange yards are carriers of Mareks. It was a ridiculous percentage that they suspect. But she said that it's a non-issue if you keep your birds in good health. Things like cocci and stress of travel can make birds shed the viruses. she said that the respiratory issue wasn't anything contagious but was a complication of the other issues in his system. She said that MG is much more of a concern as it passes through the embryo. She said once a flock has it it's near impossible to eradicate. So THANKFULLY it wasn't MG! Even with the strictest biosecurity I would have had all of my flocks!
So thankful it wasn't worse, but sorry it happened at all.

Ok. I'm an addict. I am no longer in denial. 105 chicks in my brooders from Ideal today. Ok, those are not all mine.

I have hatched out 10 chicks today, few more to go. Donna's wh/bw/lav amd going into lockdown tonight. Have some more going into lockdown on the 8th, 10th.... you get the idea.

Oh, and DH said yes to the yorkie!! So I am trading some chickens for that.... does that count???? And the 105 are bantams, so really is that like 50? Or maybe even 25?? Only 1/3 of them are mine anyway.

What's the difference between barred and cuckoo? Or mille fluer and tolbunt for that matter.

Barring has black and white. Sharp definition to each color. Cuckoo is often wider and there is gray area between the black and white. More muted colors on cuckoos.

So, basically, only sq barred rocks are really barred? The rest are cuckoo? I'm confused. Why would it be called a completely different thing? We don't call non-SQ silkies rats... :shrug

Weather has been nasty here. Today I learned that "freezing rain" is a literal statement. There is a quarter inch of ice everywhere. I have never had to chip ice off of my car in order to get into it.

I swear growing up in Iowa, that we lived on the Ice beltway. Just about every year sometime between Halloween and Thansgiving we'd get iced. I remember one year we were out of school 2 weeks due to the ice. It coated my car literally 2 inches thick, took down powerlines all over, we ran on a generator for 2 weeks. I used a screwdriver to chip out the door, got the car started, cranked up the heat, and let'er sit running (made sure tail pipe was chipped free). I chipped along both sides and eventually was able to push the entire sheet off as a solid sheet of ice. Massive crash when it went sliding off to the ground. The ice was amazingly pretty, but amazingly destructive that year. The whole farm was a skating rink for quite some time.

I just want to put this out there. I announced last night I am getting a trio of Cream Legbars from GFF newest line. Absolutely beautiful birds and crests to die for. They should be around 6 weeks old. If I owe you CCL eggs and you wish to wait for the new birds to be laying, please let me know. It probably won't be until Summer. If you do not know what the new line looks like check out the auction on RBA. They have 2 of their hens up on auction.

This also means that once I replace my current rooster with the new one I will most likely no longer have White Legbars hatching! So white Legbars will continue to hatch until Summer time.

Oooooo, I can go for that, please! I think I'm waiting on 6 CCL/6 Tolbunts from the NYD caption contest for spring, I'm OK to wait a little longer for those beauties...

Cuckoo and Barring are different. There is a thread about it.... sorry can't find it. I posted on it and asked the same question, they put up pics of the differences.

If the comment about Silkies was directed at the EE comments..... I don't know WHY they have a SUB category for CULLS and non SQ birds. Just the RULES
