I have a question.... I have had so many eggs coming these past cpl of weeks, I have pretty much let them set a day, date them and then threw in the bator... ok I didn't THROW them...but anyway. Well, there was one that was pretty large, and I thought to myself that I should candle it and see if it was a double yolker. Well, I forgot... can u imagine? Anyway, tonight I just randomly candled a few, it was near the front. Well, it is a double yolker and they both are developing. What are the chances of a successful hatch? One, both, none?

I hatched 2 Australorp chicks from the same egg last year. I had no idea it was a double either. They were both hens and are still with me. So it CAN happen!! (boy was it a surprise though. I had not candled at all and only had 4 Australorp eggs in lock down and got up one morning to 5 chicks!)

Unfortunately, chances are, they will both die. However, I have seen a couple stories where they have made it to hatch, but I think they needed assistance. All you can do is try.

I had always let the hens sit and hatch until a year or so ago (then got hooked on incubators). I guess I just did not know enough about it to know having "twins" was such a rare thing....??

Hi

My MIL is going home to die on hospice, that's what is going to happen. I am starting to get eggs. Olandsk dwarf, tolbunt, CCL so it looks right on time for Spring eggs:D or maybe even early. I may or may not be around. I might be here just to distract myself.

All my chickens are set up it only took me 45min to do all the chicken chores today. :D

Thank you for all your concerns and well wishes.
.

I am so sorry to hear that. Sending prayers to your family.

DY's are hard to hatch. There are good youtube videos of it though. Normally one or the other or both die because they run out of room and the whole not having two air cells and all.

Cant wait to see your new logo, glad you like her work as much as I do.

I have 9 OE hatched so far, but 2 are dragging around a yolk sack, which freaks me out a little!!

Don't freak- just leave it be. This has happened to me several times and it usually dries up and falls off. Just make sure to keep the chick in the incubator until it absorbs/falls off. Keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get stuck to the hardware cloth.

Good Luck!
