Cool so now they don't even have to slow down as they drive by and toss the boxes of fragile hatching eggs over your fence as they go by.

That's just sad...

Hi Everyone - Have my Dickey Incubator up an going
wee.gif
Temperature was a stable as a stone until about an hour ago and now it is fluctuating between 98 and 99.5. Is that normal? The only thing I have done was put water in for humidity. I also noticed that the air vent in the back was all the way open. I could have gotten bumped. Should I close the vent? Will there be a little fluctuation?

Question 2 - I have an entire incubator of eggs that are not scheduled for lock down until tomorrow night, but they are chirping like crazy - should I lock them down early??? I know I counted correctly, never had this happen before.

I don't know on the Dickey, but uhmmmm if you don't lock those eggs down now it doesn't sound like you're gonna get a chance to, lol! Happy hatching!

Are you hatching and incubating in it? I never add water to my incubator but I do my hatcher. I dry incubate. I don't believe I have my vents all the way open. Maybe half way. And no the temp should not fluctuate. It should stay steady.

Once they are internally pipped you do not want them turning, so lock em and sock em!

I once went to put eggs in the hatcher only to find an egg pipped already! I say lock em down!

x2! I would lock them down. Once, I had 2 buff orps hatch 2 days early and they were still in the incubator turning since I was a day behind schedule. They ended up at the bottom of the incubator unharmed, but I wouldn't risk it just in case.

Put eggs in LOCK DOWN - Check

Take Water OUT OF INCUBATOR - Check

Open vent on Dickey Incubator HALF WAY - Check

Temp. should not fluctuate - Check Oh C**p - Gonna have to figure this one out.....

Thanks all - Gotta have this figured out before time to go to Super Bowl PARTY - It's ALL about the FOOD!!!

All the eggs are in lock down in my genesis. I put them in egg cartons to try to limit the "egg rolling contest". There were none pipped yet but I think they are wanting out of there..... I do not hatch and incubate in the Dickey. I had read on this thread that it was best not to. I took the water OUT of the Dickey. I had been "dry incubating" when all I had was my three genesis but it came with the tray hose and bucket so I thought it was something I NEEDED to use. I have the vent open half way, but it is still kicking off and on every min. or so and the temp is still fluxuating about a degree. Any Ideas? Could it be that the theomoeter is "blowing back and forth" because of the fan? Is there another kind of theomoter/ hygrometer I can get for it? I really don't want to mess things up now....
Thanks for the help

It sounds like you don't have the thermostat set right. It took me a few times the first time around to get it right.
