Thanks COF. Looks like Midway to St. Augustine. Next stop Manchester. Maybe its that St. Augustine flies directly to Manchester? Not sure. There were 10 in the box, no peanuts but there were heat packs under the pad. You're thinking the heat packs could be part of the blame? There were cups of grogel in each corner. Two of the doa's were in there and couldn't get out, got cold. It was a brown box and the bottom air holes were covered. The 4th baby is perking up but I know that shipping stress can take days to show itself sometimes

. A real bummer as it was a super good deal, hopefully I can get them replaced when we are warmed up a little.

Oh it's not good. All the part. bart made it along with the 2 brahmas. The spitz didn't fair so well. The spitz were sent separately and Marans were used as packing peanuts. All the marans made it but 5 of the spitz did not. That was some nasty carnage in that box. It looks like for some reason that box got cold. The barthuhner are some big chicks and I can see how they stayed warm. Wow, so are the brahmas. I'm assuming from the looks, spitz aren't overly big birds.
That is terrible! So sorry!

puglady .......... as I said just tossing out thoughts as i read the updates on shipping from GFF. We have had 2 chicks and 1 duckling pass away in transit over 3 years of shipping birds. I count myself very lucky, but compare how and what we do with what others do to see if there is something logical to explain why things happen.

We were near 80 here yesterday. Dont know what GFF's temps were, but at 80 I cant put in a heat pack for fear of what the box temp will climb to.

We received a box of goslings last year, one was DOA. She hadnt been permitted to fully dry and warm and become alert from hatch before being boxed and shipped. I think that was the leading cause for her passing.

its all guessing on my part...... just one to analyze to see if there is a better way is all

One of my chicks was in the grogel cup as well. I don't remember feeling a heat pack under mine at all. My hand was on the bottom when I was carrying them. The bart and brahmas were shipped in one box and the spitz were shipped with some birchen marans as warmth but there were only 4 marans in there for the 6 spitz. I think my b. bart was in there too.

Looks to be heat packs in the boxes but they are ice cold. Apparently they don't use 48 hour heat packs. I'm wondering if they were even 24 hour heat packs since they are cold now.
