my pup was litter trained. by about 4 weeks old he would use a box of pine pellets to potty in. The pups were set up in an exercise pen. Newspapers covered in towels covered most of the pen, but a box was cut down to make a LARGE litter box. pups would potty in litter box 90% of the time.
I plan to have her sectioned off in a small part of the kitchen while I'm at work. There will be puppy pads put down. Once she gets a bit older we'll start crate training her. She's just too young to start right now with the hours I'm gone during the day for work. If I worked closer to home it would be fine. Dog daycares out here cost a fortune since we are talking small towns and rural areas.

I did read a great tip about taking her water up a few hours before bed time. Oh she's a snorer too.
Congratulations on getting Maya, Madam..

Yes, you can train even a very young one to a "litter box" of sorts, but think long & well about what you want the litter material to be b/c once they are trained to that they WILL potty on it,
whenever & where ever they come across it even sometimes as adult dogs, and you CANNOT scold them for pottying on their approved litter material no matter how big a mistake that turns out to be. (for example newspaper for litter is a way bad idea, so are some other fairly common choices, basically imagine a 100# dog who has been trained to say potty on newspaper visiting a friend's house when the family has the sunday NYTimes all over the living room carpet, just sayin'...) . We used wood shaving w/ a sprinkle of cedar shavings in it, so the key was the shavings plus cedar smell which is very distinctive and not likely to just happen to be laying around on anything really good or valuable in the future.

I was conversing with Babymakes6 about my SFH babies - 6 wks old. I'm trying to figure out if I have males or females. I'm going to post some photos in the SFH thread again, but she suggested that I try posting some over here.

So, before I do that, I'm wanting to ask if there is anyone that is willing to take a look if I post a few photos!

PS: Babymakes6 says you all on this thread are the best folks on BYC!

Oh man... I have a story. My Mr works for an Opera company, he's their production manager, (he doesn't sing) So last year, they did Nixon in China, which requires LIVE PIGLETS. We found a farmer willing to lend us his piglets, but the pigs had a curfew - the farmer (like all farmers) gets up super early and didn't want to stay up until 11:30 at night to get his piglet back.

So for a week, like clockwork, my Mr packed up the pigs at intermission, and drove to the edge of town and did a pig exchange at 10 at night in the parking lot of a bank

IT WAS HILARIOUS. A big old van (our utility vehicle) backed up to an old pick-up. He thought FOR SURE they were gonna get questioned by the police.

I went to a swap today and then an auction to meet someone in the parking lot to pick up my crack errrr chicks. I picked up 39 little Easter eggers to raise for the swaps!!!! and I picked up a super pet cage. it's huge with a big tub like bottom. It was actually a rabbit cage with a little loft that pops out. It makes a GREAT brooder!!!!!!!!!! 39 happy little EE's running around and a lamp hangs wonderfully from the top. I need more of these!
