Jim Heinz has some beautiful heritage RIR, both RC & SC. I hatched some from him. They are beautiful, vitally healthy chicks.I was talking to someone on the Rhodebar thread (Nicolandia, I think?) and they said that Rhodebars in the U.S. need a LOT of work because they have been inbred, then bred to the wrong types of birds for diversity, then inbred again. That's why there is such diversity in their color, egg color, etc. I hope the ones I get this spring don't have any problems. By the way, does anyone have heritage RIR on here? Nicolandia told me that they are the best for increasing diversity with Rhodebars.
What is fermented chick starter? On a different note, I tried feeding fermented chick starter to my littles last night. The chicks were ok with it. The quail absolutely loved it. They would dive in take a bite run off, and then immediately run back in. The baby food jar lid I used as a bowl looked like it had been licked clean by the dog when I got up this morning. I've been feeding sprouts, but this was the first foray into fermented feed. Now I have to start fermenting some whole grains and feed for the adults. I just bought another 50 lb bag of wheat and 50 lbs of Red Rooster feed to use for my experiment. I already have bags of BOSS and whole oats.
Congratulations!I got my very first Mille Fleur Leghorn egg yesterday!!!![]()
