Those of you that have Lemon Cuckoo Orps, generally how old are they when you can tell their sex? I only have 1 chick, so I can't compare it to others of the same breed.

Okay ya'll, need some advice. What would you charge a neighbor for chickens her dog killed. I had six NYD chicks in a grow out pen that were killed. They represented the eggs from two swaps that I got on this thread. I'm so sad about the poor little babies. They were so sweet.

We are in Florida so the weather was mild, they were fully feathered, and we had a light on them for heat the couple of nights it got into the 30's.

The neighbors are friends of ours, but apparently not responsible for securing their dog. They had made half an attempt at burrying wire along the ground where he had previously dug on our shared fence. But had not done the entire 200 or so feet of the fence line. So, they have to decide how to secure the dog (kennel, electic, etc) or we will have to take more offical steps. But right now, I want to make her pay for the chicks that were lost. Just not sure what the fair value is, as I am sure I have more sentimental value than monitary at this point, in my mind.

At least $30, to cover two swaps, then at least another $10 or $15 for feed.

The box looked ok! I have not opened it up yet but I will let you know what I find. I have to get them to the farm first! They didn't hold them, no biggie. I can't set them yet anyway. I am waiting on a few more eggs in the mail.

Then again, looking at them as just the chicks and what they'd be worth, they'd be worth at least $10 - $15 each as started chicks, right?

Morning all! My rare leghorns from ideal should ship today, which means I need to move the 2 week olds out of the garage and into the outside brooder with the heat lamp so I can use the eco glow for the babies! Of course its freezing today and wet and mucky.

I am expecting my replacement cochins for the uncochin chicks in my order. I am trying not to think about it. Supposedly they shipped Monday night and we are having lots of yucky snow, and they spent an entire day in Dallas, and the weather is supposed to get worse tonight, and......................

Yep, not thinking about them. I just hope they sent packing peanut roos for extra warmth. I got 14 uncochins and on the phone she said since we sent 44 last time for your order of 40 (even tho 4 died the first weekend) we will replace 10. NOT enough for warmth. Errrrgggghhh

I'm pretty sure that unless you say no to packing peanuts, they send them.

Do they send out an email once they'd actually shipped? I forgot to ask when I ordered. She did ask if I wanted the extra warmer chicks, and I said yes...There's no way 8 leghorn pullets would make it alone all the way to to me.

W e keep a few odd balls to get esting Eggs and sometimes u just got to eat the expensive ones I tell muself.they taste better

I'm getting eggs from a friend. Sad isn't it. Getting 16-20 eggs a day and they're all sold or swapped! DH just shakes his head. Luckily he doesn't eat eggs.

I wouldnt trade my boys for anything in the world. In fact I would give away every single bird we own, ALL OF THEM, ducks, geese, chickens could all be given away if I could have my son back who passed away in 2009. The birds have become my therapy after his passing.

I am so sorry. I cannot imagine losing any of them.
How old was your son? Birds are wonderful therapy-almost as much as a dog.
I had a flock of Mille Fluer D'uccles and Poceleaon too, they drive me nuts lol

our son was almost 3 when we lost him. So to say i am bit neurotic right now with the 2 year old is a minor understatement.

Well................... almost 2 month old chicks here sell at $10 - $15 each for common breeds. I wouldnt settle for less than that since you have to start ALL over again.




---------------------We are heading to Ocala on Sunday to pick up the new hatcher. Drop off some birds to new homes and pick up some new birds and rabbits to bring home with us.
