Oh that is funny! I so needed a laugh.. THANKYOU!
I THOUGHT I was having a good afternoon. I had chicks in the hatcher and was going to get a brooder spot for them when I was done with chores just to make sure those that were hatching could finish. Check on them and went back outside to make a new pen for the new coronation trio I had picked up last week and move some young ones out of the basement.
I came in and went to the hatcher and the first thing I see is it had spiked and temp was 104+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't reach that hatcher fast enough and sure enough my 5 cream legbars that had hatched from CJ were dying. Well 2 pullets were gone and the cockerel was on the way out. So instead of having 4 pullets and a cockerel I have 2 pullets and a cockerel and they are iffy right now.
I also lost my FIRST set of Isabella Marans F3's!!!!!!!!!! all 3 of them!![]()
I also lost my 2 blue coppers that hatched.
I don't know how except they were on a lower shelf, but Papa's chicks that hatched this time are so far ok. 2 light sussex, 2 lemon cuckoo (one is not quite right though) and one rhodebar.
I am very depressed. I got the poor babies out and turned the hatcher down and monitored it for awhile. I have a blue cuckoo that was just hatching when I pulled the others out. I really don't think any of the other eggs are going to hatch.....![]()
Whew. Well, I found an old ac to dc thinger that I'm stealing from our junk drawer, and then I am crossing my fingers that the relay from Home Depot for $15 will work. If the relay works, then my bator will be working by tomorrow evening.
Black Brook, you can send them. If I have to, I'll pick up an LG so that you're not held up.
Red Brush, can I let you know tomorrow by like 9pm (EST) if the bator is working?
I'm sorry for my little break down guys.![]()
Since I am planning on taking a trip up to see Meg the 1st weekend in May and then we are going up to MD, I would like to offer to bring eggs/chicks to people if I can. IF possible, and the ones that are laying already cooperate, etc, etc. I am not very sure of the route, or stops..... Somehow maybe between now and then it can be coordinated (with Meg of course). If you are along the route, and would like to consider this, please PM me and we will see what can be done.![]()
have to laugh when I remember first moving up here to ky. I told my husband I wanted a wine cooler and he said honey, we are dry. I looked at him real weird thinking, what has that got to do with a wine cooler? then proceeded to tell him, ah no we are not, it just rained yesterday..... he about hit the floor and could not stop laughing at me. I asked him what on earth is wrong with you? When he could breathe again, he said we live in a dry county,,, again huh? he says, dry county, no alcohol!! What?! are we living in the dark ages again???
I have never in my life heard of a dry county and didn't think it was possible in this day and age. oh well, he had a good laugh.
I have an LG still air incubator, used only a couple of times. I bought a fan kit for it, but lost the instructions. So if you are good at that kind of stuff, it would be a good deal. If someone would like this incubator, I just would like the $20.00 for the fan kit, plus the shipping to ship it to you. Please PM me if interested.

Quote: Give her an egg or two to test out, I doubt she would crush a duck egg if thats all you were worried about.
When Dh was deploying and TDY and otherwise gone thanks to the Air Force I would text him and email him and send pictures right when I thought of something. he knew we were always thinking of him and he felt like he was part of everything back here at home. Then we could catch up when he could call home.Well DH is off again. He's been doing the over the road thing since last December. He's supposed to be home once a week but it doesn't happen like that. He's only been back twice this year. This last time only because he demanded it for my sake. If any of you out there have any suggestions on how to deal with this let me know. It's very similar to when my older son was in the military. The worst was Iraq, but Great Britain was no picnic either. At least I was able to talk to him over the Internet or via sat phone, but with my hubby it's not always that easy. He can't have his phone on when he's driving. There are so many times I just want to tell him something and forget when he finally does call.
He knows its rough on me so next week I get the Brinsea 380 I found on CL, but hatching is a poor replacement for a partner. And really the chickens aren't mine since they are the kids. Turkeys are my thing, so once I get the new bator and fill the orders for March I'm going to be doing Mine MINE mine every time I pick eggs.
Sorry, but if someone wants SQ birds, buy them as grown out adults or shut up and color as my hubby would sayHi everyone
I would like to make something perfectly clear right know.
I do not nor have I ever made the claim that any of my birds, including my silkies are of "show quality" although some probably are and some are not. I do not care one way or the other, that is not why I have them. I have them for the simple joy of getting up in the mornings and taking care of them, going out several times a day to spend time with them, and laughing at some of the silly things that they do. I am just posting this because someone is hatching some of my eggs today and they sent me a pm ranting because the chicks did not meet their standards. Again, I never said they were "show quality" and they never said that is all they wanted, if they had I would not have swapped with them. I have 24+ silkie eggs that could have shipped to someone tomorrow but I think I will just feed them back to the flock, they will probably appreciate them more.
Quote: I could so make a deal for some of those LB if you were so inclined to ship (just saying)
Keep stackin away girl, you will save up that cabinetOk, I have a serious problem.
My incubator already looks like this:

And AyeUpChuck has very generously sent me 2 dozen eggs I will be getting in a couple days.![]()
I can't decide if I should just keep stacking the eggs until the first bat h go to lockdown (next week) and continue saving for a cabinet incubator, or should I order another genesis, since I like mine just fine, just figured a cabinet would be a better investment and take less space than would be three stryofoams
Quote: We hope to finish off as close to how they do as possible for the first 1 and the second will be just grown and processed. So we can cook and compare side by side
I would suggest contacting Jon (HatchCraft) he is who built out new incubator and helps others with home made and otherwise bator issues on here often. he is a great guy and likely can help you trouble shootUgh. Do I have any shipments coming that I can postpone? A simple thermostat upgrade has turned into a major freaking disaster that has left me with no freaking incubator at all. I'm seriously just ready to throw it out and sit down and cry.

Hey stop stressin over your eggs and how you ship..............this is hatch day here and we have 9 or 10 out and 6 or 7 half out lol GREAT hatch!! We had other shipped eggs from about the same distance which I think I might get 1 chick from
Ok that took awhile to catch up on. Been busy settling inthe new birds, and the new cabinet.
1 drawer holds 50 goose eggs!!!!!!!!!!!!It freed up the redwood bator for our muscovy eggs of which I have 50 in it now and room for 30 or 40 more yet now lol![]()
