Woke up this morning milked the momma goat that doesn't like her baby goat- bottle fed the baby goat, fed/watered chickens, come back to the house to find in my brooder that one of my only 2 Chocolate Wyandottes (one was a hen and one was a roo by my feather sexing- great odds) was dead- all chirpy and bouncy yesterday and this morning just dead! Hopefully I will have some more eggs shipped when the fertility rate has better odds. Until then.... one little lonely choc wyandotte.
Sorry!

all 4 of my little leghorns are alive this morning! I checked their bums, and no pasty-bum! Hopefully the yogurt helped.

I am down to 6 of the 10 boys they sent, so I moved them back into the house with the leghorns. All in all they sent 20 chicks and I have 10 still alive. I think from now on if I order from a hatchery I need to assume the same odds as when hatching shipped eggs. 50%. Ideal's customer service has been great, I called again this morning and without question she said she'd credit me for the additional two babies. Of course, I haven't seen the credit yet...

Dry county? What?! In Bellefonte, before arson of the one bar, there were 7 bars and the state shop within two blocks and 9 total for the town. This isn't a big town either. Here, that's about the only entertainment! The college town has more bars than I can even count, because I don't even know about all of them! I think it's about 3 bars per block there. Dry county... not likely here, LOL

Be careful what you wish for...mine is now getting a little too bird crazy. I was excited when he decided to get a few birds of his own. But now he is starting a list of all the breeds HE wants to get. That is great until you realize that HE isn't the one here at home caring for the bazillion birds every day.
OMG My husband is the same way that is too funny!

My husband used to be big into birds, then when we had to get rid of all our animals he kind of fell out of it. Since I started getting chickens again recently at first he kept questioning every chick now he keeps going crazy and making lists but expects me to do all the work. Luckily he doesn't know how to use the swap page or my paypal!!!

It is just killing me that my husband is down in Orlando and he is refusing to go visit Celtic and pick up some eggs for me. and he had the nerve to tell me last night that I need to stop hatching chicks. I got only 2 girls in my last batch!!!! the rest are going to freezer camp!!! why cant spouses understand chicken math!!! I envy you guys who have chicken spouses!!!
But on the other hand he probably wouldn't go pick up the eggs either- a mix between if he broke even one there would be h-e-double hockey sticks to pay. Plus he is not big on meeting new people-no really you should have seen him a few years back. I was in the hospital and my daughters had picture day for dance he called me every 20 mins(while I was in a hospital bed with menenagitis no less!!) for 4 hrs straight and begged me to let him skip the pictures that could not be rescheduled!!It's funny now!

I live in a dry town, not county, just town. We have beer and wine at Walmart and winne Dixie and beer at gas stations, but that's it. No liquor and no bars. Nothing with alcohol sold on Sundays.
Funny, we have a winery in town though. We also have a bar about two minutes past the town line sign, so its kind of stupid. It's a super dive though. It's ok, I can't drink for a while, no smoking means no alcohol for me

Off topic, but I need some info from quail people, please. What do you do with Button Quail? How soon can Cots and Button be removed from heat? Could you keep them in a run with chickens if the wiring is small enough and you build a separate covered area with hidey holes for them? TIA I'm not sure what to do with them now that I have hatched them. LOL

I love that incubator. It's gorgeous. I'm thinking I need one. Plus a hatcher. Next year, maybe.

I'll try to get pics of my new babies this evening. Total of 16 from that hatch, but one is weak...no, really it's weird. We'll see how it does.

I am even happier with my hubby than I was! He supports my chicken habit, but doesn't take over my space with his chicken choices! He spent part of his weekend building sandboxes for the front chickenhouse, so when I move the oldest birds out there next month they won't tear up the ground by the building so much. And he's delivered angora rabbits on his travels, as far away as DC, anyway. If I asked him, he'd likely bring me eggs or drop them off with someone. Yeah, he's a keeper!

Since I've already kept him for nearly 32 years, it's a good thing!

:)

Good morning!
