Weeelllp, for those looking for turkey eggs, I just want to say, you have a better chance now... I'm done claiming eggs, EVEN turkey eggs (*gasp*) for awhile. I need to get my bator ready for the eggs that will be coming, start working with folks to get the bator scheduled and then fill the rest of the space with my own eggs so I can start bringing money back in. The shed is now up to $500, and I still need to buy the stuff to run electricity to it, buy the relay for the bator ($15), keep buying feed, just bought new feed dishes and disinfectant for the the bator, then I need to start getting runs built for all of these birds that I'll be hatching, so they have breeding pens and I'm not rushed to get them seperated. So... unless I end up with eggs that I don't get enough chicks from, I'll be all done probably until summer. Eesh. That's a scary thought!
I'll still be watching, of course. I need to keep an eye out for some stuff for Mama2my4, LOL.
LOL! No, really! I'm picking up 8 silkie chicks (hopefully this weekend) and have to rearrange the brooder birds, then work on getting eggs hatched and selling chicks from my own eggs to bring some money back. G was complaining about how much money we've spent on them recently, and how they haven't brought ANY money back in forever. He was actually talking about DOWNSIZING my current flock! *GASP* I think he might have bumped his head or something, but he is right about the money. Everything is costing more than we were expecting (tack on another $200 for the shed alone, then the bator problems, etc) and it's just a big hassle right now. We just need to settle down a little bit, get everyone settled into the new house, get the watering system done so when they're locked up, they don't create a swampy mess in there, etc. But, I really need to focus on what's already been claimed, what's already here and everything else. Plus, I REALLY need to get soaps cranked out. I think I have like 20 bars of soap left, which is insane.
