I'd like to get my Muscovy set up in the back yard near the pond, but I'm worried about predators getting to them. Any thoughts on adding another bird to the little flock as a guardian? Goose (breed?), guinea, ??
geese dont guard anything, they are all bluff and will be a meal for predators too. guinea are alarm systems only. A secure house they are closed in at night is the only way to protect them fully.

I bought one from incubator warehouse and it calibrated perfectly on for temps and 3% low for the hygrometer, which is fine in my opinion. I just make the mental adjustment when reading it. Think it was less than $20 and has a probe on it. Love it.

I bought a $2 thermometer/hygrometer off ebay. Yes, shipped from China -- I don't much like that part of it, but it works like a charm. I also use the cheap little thermometers with a probe on the end of a wire to make water wigglers to track internal temps, too.

Struggling writer -- I pinch pennies. My measure of success will be the day I never have to shop at a Walmart again. Drives me nuts -- twenty years ago Walmart was a fantastic company and prided itself on everything it sold being made in the U.S., and I loved shopping there. Now everything they sell is made overseas, so why should I increase their profits (which sure as heck don't go to their employees) when I can get the same thing made overseas for cheaper from overseas?

Sorry, I ranted :)

The day I sign my first multi-novel contract, I am ordering one of those stunning, handmade-in-the-USA cabinet incubators from the guy who made COF's.

Crap, I just ordered it. I did the free 30 day membership trial thing that I have to remember to cancel in a few days, LOL. I'll send you some BB's once we're all settled in though, for helping me solve my little disaster! Just PM me your address!

Lol no need to send me anything since I didn't order it, but I will catch your BBs on the swap! I love problem solving and research.

I am right there with you regarding Walmart. I try my best not to shop there.

Have you self-published any of your writing online?

Do ducks and geese go in their house at night like chickens? (well except my silkies who follow me around until I carry them to bed)

Just wanted to post some pic's of what has been hatching at my house.
Oldest at 3 weeks. 5 SFH Chicks and one Silkie who is two weeks older then them I think.

Silver Lakenvelder, Exchequer Leghorn, Mottled Cochin, Birchen Cochin, Silkied Amer, and a Quail (2 weeks old almost)

2 days old. Orpington, EE, Cochin, SFH, and some other breeds. (These guys will not stand still for pics, so I only got half of them. lol)

I actually support myself off my writing (not well, obviously!) So far everything I've written has been e-published which actually sells fairly well, but the really decent money is still in print, mostly :)

OMG, Dana, I just saw your post. All my hopes that your son is doing better! That's awful enough with any child, and the worry and heartache is enough to make anyone frantic. To add onto that not being able to explain what's going on, or that it's going to be okay... Words aren't adequate. I'm thinking a big hug at all of you.

x2

Cluck, I have been meaning to read some of your stuff. However, I just started taking some classes and not managing my time very well yet to allow for fun reading.
