Right! Actually, I meant to post this ages ago -- this was the label on a box from sutillmann, who did a lovely job packing :)

Not only is it apparently effective, it's cute

Happy birthday to the birthday peeps!

My first ever hatching eggs go into lockdown on Monday. I am not too hopeful on them hatching. I had a temp spike of just under 104. The thermometer didn't read a time for it, so it was brief, that is the only thing that has me still holding out hope for them. It was less than a minute there or it would have charted ( the only thermometer that I had on hand is a high tech one that my DH sells....it's a 400.00 thermometer). The temp has averaged 95 the whole time, so I hope that reading was just a weird fluke. I will know on Wednesday next week.

I need 400.00 thermometer it just sounds cool, congrats on the hatch.

And here I keep thinking that I should go buy a cheaper one cause high tech and chickens don't go hand in hand. :gig

Check out this video on packing eggs for shipping- I'm pretty sure this is what the USPS is doing to our boxes anyway :lau

(make sure you play the video at the bottom of the page, it's amazing)

I don't see a video. Must be because I am on my phone. I want to try out on of those pay as you go Internet services. They have them at Walmart. It's as low as $10 a month. I am worried about the service where we live though. My phone is AT&T and I only get service in certain parts of the house.

Anyone use any pay as you go Internet?

I am SO going to do something like this next time!!!!!
Ha! I read that somewhere too. So, I got my roommate (who is a graphic designer) to print up some really cute stickers with chicks and hatching eggs with the attachment message "Dear Postal Carrier, please be gentle with me. I am a baby to be!". Then I slap them all over the box. I don't know if it amuses the PO, but I have gotten a couple of chuckles from you guys. All my eggs arrive safely and I haven't broken any yet that I know of. I don't think I am the best packer....so I think the stickers help. No scrambled eggs for my babies!! Even if it just makes them smile! Hey, I should put some on my swap page! They are pretty cute.

Evening everyone. Haven't yet had a chance to catch up on posts, as I AM FURIOUS!!!!! I got eggs in today from papabrooder and from someone on a rare breed site. Of course papa's were packed wonderfully. As soon as I saw the other box I knew there was going to be trouble. Egg was all over the OUTSIDE of the SECOND BOX! Now, she had messaged me to say she had sent 6 extras and that sometimes it didn't turn out to pack that many, but she HAD TAPED THEM WELL. So...18 eggs wrapped in napkins. Placed in a carton. Carton taped all the way around. It is obvious that the eggs broke when she taped the carton that tight. Carton placed on its back diagonally to barely fit in the box. Piece of newspaper on top and bottom. That box was taped shut and placed in another box the same size. I have pics. Of the 18, nine were okay, but covered in egg goop and I wiped them clean with a wet cloth, but am out of oxine to clean them with. I'm hoping they don't have any bacteria to ruin them or papa's eggs in the incubator with them. One egg had a hole in the bottom, but the membrane was intact so we candle waxed it hoping it might make it. The other 8 were SMUSHED FLAT!!!!! Yes, I paid for a dozen. Yes, she sent extras. But I'm now afraid I will have trouble with bacteria and from horrible air cells since they shipped sideways on the 9 that are okay. I'm not sure if I should email her and tell her or if I should notify the site manager to tell them. Should I leave it alone? Do I need to clean these eggs with something else before they go in with Papabrooder's? Here are pics... Carton when I opened the box. The paper was all soaked around it. All the eggs around the tape end were broken. Mushy mess. Flat as a PANCAKE!
That is a perfect example of why to use bubble wrap. They shaking did not get absorbed. Ugg, I'm sorry! My first set of eggs shipped were toast when I got them. And when I sent them. I was trying to be enoviornmenaly friendly and not use extra tape... never again.
OK just wanted to ask if anyone has any good audio books on CD or MP3? I would love to borrow for my trip. I like mystery and romance. Listening to a book makes the drive go quicker!
Check out audible.com, and see if your local library has MP3 rentals online. Or think about joining a non local one for its MP3 rentals. A lo of libraries let people at o get a card and rent online. If you have not read Diana gabaldon her books on tape are done exceptionally well.
Happy Birthday to Bama as well
Happy all the birthdays! Ma all your legs become chicks and all your chick become hens!
