Lots of places have the complete canning kits too from Ace hardware to others. Gets you all the must have parts from pot to tongs ect. then you can get the jars and other odds and ends.
I've decided to move my garden to a larger batch that the previous residents had used for gardening. We usually grown tons of different peppers and tomatoes. I just picked up some blueberry bushes call Pink Lemonade. I'm thinking of turning the old garden into a blueberry batch. We love our blueberries around here. I need to go get more bushes though.

Madam ............ I am about to buy all of canning gear too and start this year.

We can compare woes and projects.

She doesn't respond. And if she does, it's just to say sorry. It's really sad. They have such beautiful birds and I wish they did more to ensure they had healthy genetically sound birds.

so sorry to hear of you losses Jeannie.

I have found it interesting that they have bought a friends black copper eggs, which I have reservations about and they just purchased some eggs from me on my black coppers. They are not as dark right now like they are in spring/summer but they are pretty consistent as far as type. Plus I am getting some good hatching numbers from them here at home.
I wish they would have done things differently too. You are so right with the beautiful birds and they have spent the money and time to import them you would think they would market them better. Too many stories are coming out and I just talked with someone last night not from this thread with the same stories. He knows a buyer that bought like the first pair of Bielfielders for something like $1700-1800 and not happy and trying to resell them for the same but the prices are already less than half of that. They haven't even started laying yet!

What are the rule changes? I couldn't find anything different on the swaps first post  only thing I saw was we aren't allowed to offer OE? Does that mean no SBELS? Are people allowed to offer other things after the first offer of pure eggs? Like, if I wanted to start offering homemade chocolates as my last option on my offer...

Great!!! Anyone suggest a good book on canning??? I'm heading to TSC today to get more blueberry bushes. I so want some blueberry preserves.
I have been canning for almost 30 years! (wow, I just realized how old that makes me sound) I have my mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers recipes written down. I would be happy to share with anyone who wants them. You may consider sitting aside a plot of ground for fresh herbs. Fresh can make or break a recipe!!

I would be very interested. My grandmother never did write hers down and my mother is at an age she can't remember how she did it and keeps telling me that I can find the recipe on the internet! um not your recipe Mom!

Missouri weather is very diverse. It swings from over a 100 in summer to well below freezing in the winter. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how well suited to these changes SFH, Olandsk Dwarf, Rhodebar and CCL are??
