Okay, back to work for me. Have a wonderful day, all!

Okay, I'm exhausted, and feel the need to babble. Hubby lit the bonfire pit to burn deadfall at 6:00 am. He couldn't keep it burning, so gave up. No big deal; the pile wasn't that big. It could wait. We both have been doing chores and errands all day. Then he took a nap. At about 1:30, he woke up, glanced out the window and hit the door running. A wind had come up, and apparently there were some coals down in there. He started hauling buckets. I got the muck tub cart, and garden cart and started filling tubs to haul. Reilly has eaten all the hoses we had, but none would have reached anyway.

Fire moved fast. When he saw it, it was less than a couple yards from the fire pit. By the time I got out there with the first tub, it was over maybe a quarter acre and moving. I hauled out the next tub, grabbed all the dogs, and called 911. They got to us quickly, but it was maybe an acre and a half by then, next to the shop, heading for the new chickenhouse and his Harley trailer. Fast. Fire Dept got it out quick, thank goodness.

I have used my energy allotment for today. Hubby certainly has, as he was running buckets while I was moving tubs. He also inhaled a lot of smoke. I have him with a humidifier and hot tea for the steam. He's not in bad shape, but it's miserable to have lovely seared lungs.

Nobody was hurt, human pet or livestock. The fire didn't get to the front yard where all the dried leaves are. It got stopped before it reached any building....well, it was licking the shop, but that's all it got. A pile of lumber to build a lean to on the shop got no more than singed. Some fence will end up having to be replaced.

My husband points out that the dang deadwood in the fire pit still didn't burn!

Hope your day is better.
Wow! I am glad everyone is okay, but sorry for the scare you had!

Side note @ everyone:
Not trying to step on any toe's... but, can you guys try to remember to make swap pages with the info from your claims and offers. Some of the people do it on the thread, some don't and it would make it a bit more easier on people to go and look at when they can expect eggs if you have it there. Plus, it is in the rules.

Everyone should have a swap page with the list of swaps they owe and putting it in your sig block makes it easy to find.

Hey guys
frow.gif

Wanted to share a real easy brooder I made this weekend (no husbands or tools needed
tongue.gif
)

I know we are all hatching like maniacs and running out of brooder space so it may enable help another swapper.
I needed something large to brood 2 goslings in (Thanks Celtic
love.gif
) and nothing quite fit the bill (pun intended
gig.gif
) Anyway, after searching aimlessly in Home Depot for a few hours I came across these large panels of Plastic corrugated cardboard. They were strong like regular heavy cardboard but made from plastic so I thought what the heck, I can cut them up and make a waterproof box out of them. Worked like a charm! I brought 3 panels ($11.00 each panel) and made a HUGE box using 2 1/2 panels. I cut them to the sizes I wanted and just taped them together with heavy duty packing tape. Working by myself took less than an hour and the only tool I needed was a pair of scissors

I made this on the short side because the goslings don't seem to jump up but for chicks I would have made it taller.

And just for sheer cuteness here they are bathing in a kiddie pool...in my kitchen, lol. I know I have issues

They really put on a show in the water and the kids just LOVE them!

The brooder is working out great so far especially since these guys love to get everything wet in there. Regular cardboard would not have worked and near impossible to find in large sizes anyway. Plus I can take this thing outside and hose it down when needed

I'm gonna make a few more for the chickies

So, what if I CAN'T make one? :/ I can not create a members page from my phone, I have tried. Couple times. Apparently once I get access to a computer with Internet and create a page, I should be able to edit it from my phone. However, I don't have access to a computer with Internet.
