My hubby is planning on having my new pens finished this weekend, so I can have everyone sorted and in their own home. But in the meantime, I snapped this picture the other day. It is a pic of a golden cuckoo maran roo and a choc orp. Bear in mind that the golden cuckoo is about a month older than the choc orp. :)
Oh how pretty!

So I went to check on my last batch of eggs, due to hatch this weekend, and I saw a foot. Yep there is a hole in the side and a foot sticking out! Has anybody ever had this happen? It is still alive so I am hoping he will pip normally and hatch. But I will keep an eye on him and help if needed.

Never had it happen, but I am almost certain you will have to assist. Personally, I think chicks use their feet to put pressure on the shell to move and to help weaken the shell. Without being able to use its foot, I don't think it will be able to unzip. When I had the two eggs that had gotten crushed but membrane intact, the egg that still had egg intact on the pointy end hatched, the one that had lost 1/3 of its shell and only had membrane to push against didn't hatch.

I had the foot thing happen to a duck. I assisted. But it was a call duck and I assist about half the time with them anyway.

So glad everyone is having such good luck with my cochin eggs!
