Betta, I'm so sorry! I can do my little styrofoam incubators but anything more complex is beyond me. I'm sorry about your stepdad, too

I'd probably either hire somebody (any voc tech schools in the area? Maybe someone could use the project for a class) or buy a new incubator!

Okay, those of you who hatch in egg cartons, do you cut the sides down? I've had four chicks pip and zip around to where the shell met the foam, get stuck and die this hatch. I'd cut holes in the bottom for air flow but the result of that was eggs sitting more snugly in, hence the getting stuck and dying

Frankly I think I'm simply going to quit using the cartons.

OK. I still have some U of A eggs available for whoever wants them. I have seven molting and non-molting silver Phoenix large fowl. and a dozen Mottled Houdan eggs. Whoever takes these, I will definitely need to pay shipping, etc because I have had to buy additional wrapping materials and am going to be out of Paypal to pay for shipping. LOL Send me a PM if you want them. I sent anywhere from 6 to 12 to everyone on my list currently except Brad Selig as I ran out of Hamburgs. Sorry again, Brad.

It's a 110. Now, I'm completely confused, because the guy's video does NOT match up to his wiring diagram at all. Not to mention, his wiring diagram doesn't match up with the wiring diagram from the actual thermostat. The thermostat has the two bays connected, his diagram does not, and when you wire to his diagram, the thermostat won't even turn on. I found out WHY my stupid relay was fried (THANK GOD I bought a second one because I was being impatient!!!) The rat's nest that was in there from the original wiring and then Ed's additional rat's nest had everything all funky. I completely removed my indicator light on the bator, which was connected to the main power source, AND the relay, and that's where the power came from to fry the relay. Now, my indicator light will not work, because I honestly don't know how to wire that in, HOWEVER, the thermostat, provided that I get this all correct the second time around, has it's own indicator light. Now, I have to figure out exactly how to connect the two bays in the thermostat together, when one is supposed to be a DC, and it's supposed to also be connected to the relay, which is AC... Since I'm literally electrically retarded, this is extremely difficult for me. I look at a simple light bulb connection, which I know is easy, and I can connect the idea that it's easy enough and should be simple, I am just missing some kind of connection in my head that tells me HOW to do it. I can't even explain why it doesn't make sense to me, lol.
you need to say to him: "well if it is a fire hazzard than come over here and help me make it safe, because if you don't. I am going to try to do this anyway and I may make it worse."

I only use the paper cartons. The styrofoam ones seem to be sticky. The cardboard/paper ones have worked for me.

Again no worries. It's very kind of you to offer these!

Im sorry about your chicks! I lost a duckling that pipped at the bottom of the egg a few days ago. I've read that most people have great success using the cartons, but I haven't decided how I stand on it. I may try it again for my next hatch.

:gah I am out of space...I don't understand how that happens so quickly. I could try the dominoe stacking thing, but I don't trust my hatching abilities to try that yet.

Well, I seem to get better zip rates without chicks playing egg football with their trying-to-hatch little brothers and sisters, but this hatch at least my survival-to-htatch rate just plummeted...

Yeah, I've lost low pippers before who might have survived if they were on their sides, too. Still trying to come up with the ultimate solution!
