Very cute. I think you could sell these, if you knew people that were "into" chickens

SewChaos, that shoulder bag's a riot! I love it. I'd definitely swap for one of those!

Deb, thanks for the tip on the paper cartons. That should have occurred to me, lol!

If you can post pictures, we can help. I have lots of pics of my SFH growing up in the albums of my profile page. The younger ones are in the Uploads album, I believe. Many of them are labeled with age.

After looking at your pictures, I am sure the ones I was wondering about are CCL! Which is great as I am getting a CCL rooster from Babymakes6. I have adult SFH and they all are different colors. They each have the little white tip on the feathers (I got mine from CelticOaks) there is a blue girl that is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The CCL also have white on also but are all exact copies of each other. Your roo looks much different than mine. Mine is Red... Very pretty but I like all the white on your rooster. Yesterday I found that one of my hens had broken off part of her top beak. It is red and looks sore, but she is eating and drinking ok. Should I do something on it or leave her alone??

It's (err, WAS) a sportsman. Everything runs on AC, but the relay that they insist you have to have is DC, so you need an AC to DC converter for that relay to work.

At this point, I have to order another thermostat, because we just confirmed that the big wires pulling that one set of "bays" helterskelter has destroyed the thermostat connections. So, that's two relays and now a thermostat so far. As if it wasn't enough to have to buy one of each.

Oh, ouch! RBF, I have no idea. My instinct would be to say dab it with BluKote or some other disinfectant/sealant, but I really don't know. Anybody else ever had a bird with a hurt beak?

I'm glad she's eating and drinking :) That bodes well.

When I first got a bunch of adolescent ccl/sfh/rhoderbars, I couldn't tell them apart for the life of me! After about 3-4 days, I started noticing the differences. It's so funny how our eyes adjust to new information!

Her beak looks like it would be sore. It looks like the tough beak cover came off and left the tender part underneath. Like if you tare a fingernail off into the quick. I have no idea what she could have done.
After looking at the pictures it I will be watching for the little differences in the chicks. They just look so darn much alike. I love the little crest they are developing. Makes them even more adorable!

Betta, I am so sorry about all the problems you are having with the incubator. It is so exciting to get one and then to have so much trouble has to be hard. Hope you can find someone soon who can help you get up an running. Hope you know we would all help if we could

"They?" The thermostat people?

A quick perusal of google suggests that they are, indeed, a lot like fingernails and it should grow back, given time

Here's my suggestions (although they're probably all things you're already doing): if the other birds are harassing her at all, isolate her. If she stops eating because it's too painful, try soaking crumbles in water (like you're fermenting the feed) so it's a soft mush for her to eat. I'm really not sure about the BluKote or other disinfectant -- it might be a good idea, but then again I don't know if it would interfere with the beak regrowing. Like I said, my instinctive response would be to dab it, at least for a day or two BUT that's an instinctive response, not an educated one.

That's all for what it's worth. Sounds like the prognosis is good!

And I really, really need to get pics of my adolescent SFHs from KYTinpusher. It's the cutest thing -- all the males have crests, all the females don't! What are the odds?
