We had tornado's here Monday. It was bad all over DeKalb county. Friends lost barns, some had house damage. My parents lost their shed, gazebo and their pontoon boat was blown out of their pond and into the field. We were out of power all afternoon and night and my incubator with 20 cream legbars and 14 sulmtalers were at 72F degrees by the time power was restored despite being wrapped in quilt. I had 4 silkie eggs in the hatcher that were suppose to hatch Tuesday. It also got down to 72F degree. They didn't hatch. I candled late last night. It looked like they all stopped developing that day. I am going to candle again in a few days and see if there is any change. I guess I will do eggtopsy on the silkie eggs tonight.

If I had CL at laying age, I'd send you some. Glad you are okay though.

That has to be scary, I am glad your parents and friends are alright.

How far along were the Legbars and Sulmtalers? I have heard that a short reduction in heat during the early/mid stages usually just delays the hatch.. Remember the hen will leave the nest in the wild to forage for food and water a few times during the broody cycle - its why the new electronic incubators have a built-in "cool down" cycle - to mimic what a hen will do in nature. Unfortunately I don't think they leave the nest when chicks are actually hatching.

they still hatch for you.

Sorry to hear of all the damage and lost chicks. Very glad that no one was hurt!

Spring fever is going to start hitting and swapping is bound it kick into high gear again post Easter.

Be sure you double check your PayPal accounts before you start swapping so you KNOW for sure what is in there.

Be sure when you offer Paypal it is being sent within 24 hours (per the rules) unless stated and agreed on a later date

Be sure your eggs are getting out within the time frame that they were first offered, and always comminicate if there is a delay

Hope the chicks come out ok for you, as other said lower temps often just slow things down some. So glad everyone is OK, tornadoes are scary stuff

The eggs were at day 10, Easter hatch-a-long. How long do yall think I should wait before I candle again. Last night was day 12 when I candled and they all looked like day 9 would. Or...... should I just not look again, quit turning at day 18 ? and see if anything hatches. Soooooo sad over these BEAUTIFUL eggs! They all arrived in A-1 tip top condition with fantastic packaging.
