Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

Well, I checked on the lockdown eggs when I got home. Five of six Barnevelders from Pysankygirl had already hatched, but not even a pip from the other. I candled it and realized the air cell was on the side. It must have slipped in shipping and I hadn't picked up on it before. At any rate, I broke into the air cell to see how it was...and the poor thing had died. It just wasn't going to be able to do an internal pip like that.

From two claims of Pysankygirl's Barnies, I now have ten chicks total. That's pretty dog-gone good!

That's awesome! I need me some of her Barnies. We only have one old girl left and I don't think she cares to lay eggs anymore. She is so pretty though and loves attention. Kid calls her Sydney.

I'm picking up a flock of SFHs tomorrow morning. And I made a deal to sell one of my very pretty FBCMs roosters for hatching eggs. He wasn't getting used properly as he was only back up, and they lost their rooster over the winter. Guess I never outgrew the share and share alike that was drilled into me as a child. Anyway I still have his brother for breeding.

We are on spring break so the kid and I will be busy building.

If she doesn't come, then you are going to send me some eggs from him and his new girlfriend, right?

So those 3 hens I picked up are all broody. And one of my orps decided to go broody too. So I slid a total of 16 eggs under them today. Happy hen sounds all around :)

Oh darn, and oh, good! at the same time

Xander does his job! and the husband was just remarking today about what a nice rooster he was. He takes his job seriously scanning for danger and is nice to his girls to boot. Very gentlemanly. In fact, we rarely actually SEE him doing his job he is so discrete. I don't think any of our girls are missing even a single feather from his advances.

One of my Barnie girls is going, broody, though. I keep ushering her off the nest but she is back there next time I look. and one of my Welsummers, too. (Heather #2) Heather is very cross at me when I even go into the coop, let alone steal the eggs she's trying to sit on. but I guess it does keep the eggs from getting cold and cracking when it is freezing out there. wondering if I should slip some of the partially incubated eggs under one of them. hmmmm......

Snow??!!??! REALLY.!!??!!
(grumble. grumble, grumble)

I now have kraftyladies beautiful black English Orpington cockerel installed in quarantine. He's magnificent! I already claimed eggs from him! He's also gentle. I was hand-feeding him right after I moved him in to quarantine, and he had no qualms about accepting my offer.

Now, if krafty doesn't make it up here in May............. :)

Ummmm....sure. You don't mind that his temporary love is a hatchery GLW? Seems like strange eggs to covet, but whatever makes you happy! If krafty doesn't come, I promise you some of those eggs!

Heheheh

Could anyone tell me what I need to set up a fodder system? I will have 9 coops this Summer and want to provide greens all year long really.

I like to use buttercream for the crumb coat then cover with the modeling chocolate. You should try it, I was not a fan of the fondant either. My wedding cake is the first large/professional style cake I ever made. It was a very simple design, I though I might be a little busy that day

Beautiful Cake! I might have to try that one day.... the chocolate thing.

I was afraid to stack a cake.... I had never done it.... SO I cheated a little.

And since we are sharing or crafty-ness.... I Doctored up my wedding dress too. I just bought a basic white dress and I added all the burgundy, beading, corset, and train (I even did the embroidery) and the vale and headdress and flowers HAHA I was busy being thrifty
