After setting some bantam choco orp eggs for krafty and pysanki I will start filling my swaps for them. That is provided I can break my little broody black orp hen.

I wasn't sure if that was going to be possible because of the problems you were having with them.

I have quite a few that are older. 2 definite roosters. I need to take a good look at them this weekend. I have 3 separate sets right now with a fourth set coming.

hubby tends to that part of it, but he is off on his two week tour....is there a humane way? I don't want to see, just smack it's head or something like that, I don't think I could handle that.....ugh! I feel like such a big wimpy crybaby.

I use a pair of scissors for day olds.

I read baking soda and vinegar in a dish and putting the chick in a bigger container...the combo puts them to sleep quickly.

I have a cross beak....hes getting ready to be put down. I couldnt do it when he was a chick....he was too friendly and sweet and all he cared about was eating so I thought I would keep him until he got his roo-mones. He still is sweet though :0(

Around here, we can't take care of special needs chickens. I know some have no problems with it but rule of thumb for us is if it can't produce beautiful, functional chicks, it has to be put down.
