Well Profti's chicks still have not arrived. I keep checking the tracking with no updates.

Now my chicks that were supposed to be here today never arrived either.

You know I really think it's the hub your stuff goes through. I had problems with BM6 when I ship birds to her as well.

mail?

I'm not the most patient person, so I would be driving the PO crazy enough to make them go well postal.

I got my bunny box, thanks! one egg was crushed another cracked and another broke apart after letting them sit in a carton for resting.

They are set so will see what hatches! Thank you again!!!

My Buckeyes from Little Ameraucana Mom were due to hatch Monday, I candled them yesterday because I too am extremely impatient and two of them had ceased to move. So, since I had violated lockdown, I went ahead and opened the non-moving ones first. Both of them were shrink-wrapped and then when I opened the membrane, they were drowned in this gellatinous goo. One of them was completely upside-down (I'm assuming due to the very saddle-shaped air cell). So I opened the other two that had internally pipped because I figured that they had been strong enough to actually pip thorough the shrink wrap and avoid drowning. I was right, they were both shrink wrapped with their little beaks sticking through. I pulled both of them out enough to get nostrils through and put them in the brooder because they still had many active blood vessels (at 22 the end of 22 days, this was the evening not the morning). This morning, I looked at their umbilical cords and they were still active, but I was super afraid of them sitting in those extremely wet shells, so I pulled them out of the goo enough to tie sewing thread very tightly around their umbilical vessels and then snip off the rest of the membrane which, instead of staying inside the egg, was so wet that it just slipped entirely out of the egg in one piece. I puffed copious amounts of wonder dust on their umbilical areas (still a little yolk sticking out, but not much, I've seen a lot worse survive). They're drying now and seem to be doing very well.

I really need a hatching incubator so that I don't have to deal with these humidity issues. I've only been getting about two chicks that survive out of every swap of 6. But at least I've finished with the staggered hatches, what I have in now were all put in at the same time.

On a lighter note, I candled the five midget turkey eggs that were viable (not scrambled) from the 6 that flocksalot had sent me and all five are very actively moving. Yay, Turkeys!

Well, I just had xmas in April. A package of dvd's for the kids, my turner motor, 4 turk eggs, 9 goose eggs and one of those goose egg packages have the little drawstring bags I'm trying to use for a new product!

Thank you to Gable, Reese and Krazy from this swap for perfectly packed eggs!

And the UPS man should be bringing me two packages today too!

Nice to see someone local on here.

Those are the two that I remember. I hit "Multi" so that I can remember all the posts that I wanted to comment on...

Oh yeah! The question about the barred/lavender chick that is barred female but comb is male. I am slowly trying to figure out all of the genetics stuff, but my understanding is that if the male only has one copy of the barred gene, then they would bar like the female. It has been a while since I read this, but here's a shot: With the barred gene, the female barred bird passes one copy of barring to male chicks only. The male passes a copy to male and female. So, if only the mama is barred, then the male would end up with a single copy of the barred gene, or a more feminine version of a fully barred chick. So, if the bird has a red comb and only one barring gene, it is likely male.

I would like to point out that I am very novice at this, and someone may be able to correct me, but this is my simplified understanding of barring.

ETA: actually, if only one parent is barred then the male chick will only have one copy of the barred gene. Doesn't have to be the mama

P.S. got all of my swaps and they were awesome, Bnewns sent me two boxes of cool stuff, was she my bunny swapper too? Loved the DVD's. Daze sent me eggs which I was lusting after. Gable sent me a box of sample sized stuff and saved me a trip to the dollar store. I can't remember the rest, but I loved them all, thanks so much everyone.

So my day has improved a bit. Got a lovely box of chicks, have no clue what half of them are. With that being said, I have 4 Tolbunt Polish chicks for sale/trade. Please PM me with offers. Obviously if I am shipping them they will have to be at least 4 weeks old so please keep that in mind.
