My guess is that you'd get autosexing OE's.

I was wondering

how cool!

once in fedex's hands they drop off the radar. There were storms which delayed some flights and backed up cargo out of memphis
I think that is a bad partnership for USPS. With all the chick/bird shipments you would think they would have their own division to handle that. Might make a bit of the money they owe.

can you get those crossing the CCL and Rhodes also? I would guess yes since both are autosexing

I would imagine so, but it helps that the Golden Cuckoo and CCLs are supposed to be the cream color and autosexing. The CCL/Rhodebar would most likely be autosexing, but the color variation would be a lot greater and make it a little bit more difficult to distinguish male/female.

I have a missing bird in transit as well! :( was shipped a bresse roo yesterday from San Diego and no scan since San Diego.....

All this USPS garbage just makes me grumpy. I wish there was some other way to move live birds, at least. Why should birds be languishing in a facility somewhere suffering from lack of water or being cold, with people walking right past them moving other boxes first! Of everything that's marked express or priority, I should think living animals should be first in those lines. The heck with dry ice! It's replaceable!

And despite all the problems, I'm still happy to say that I get to extend my hatching until the end of May! Since hubby wants to keep turkeys, I told him I still want to get rid of the remaining crosses and go with a single breed. I can either push my NPIP testing back another month or two, orwait until next year to get poults. We opted to get poults now, and push back the NPIP. So, I get to order poults for delivery in May. That means I also get to hatch in May! Since Krafty is coming up early May and may bring eggs, I'm using that as my new cut off. Eggs must be in the incubator by May 6. That allows me to collect eggs from our trip too, if anyone has anything on my list! :D

So now I get to watch the swap and auction and BIN threads again!

Careful with my eggs, USPS!

Make sure that all these missing birds are reported and you claim the Express Mail guarantee. Unfortunately, when I get eggs, I can ask them to investigate, but they don't take it as seriously as losing money. In fact, my local Postmaster gave me her email address to start sending complaints, pictures, etc. to since she said USPS as a company will not do anything about it and just refer it to the local PO, but don't actually do an investigation unless money is involved. They say they'll do one, but in all actuality all they do is send a message to the local PO. But, she said, if she gets enough evidence from me, she can compile it all together, send it along, and get more done.

shipping is frustrating..............

we shipped 4 express and 1 priority box yesterday

Express 1 -- arrived day early

Express 2 -- MIA was due this morning

Express 3 -- in route on time and being scanned at stops

Express 4 -- ARRIVED this morning (1 day early) and shows it has not been picked up by the receiver (frustrating)

member just contacted me from eBay about the eggs not hatching.
She bought this http://www.ebay.com/itm/130633787593 to incubate in and is a total newbie at it and of course is now complaining.

if you want to be more positive about it, I always ask questions that let them know I am trying to find the problem. " what thermometer are you useing ( if it does not do .1 it wont tell you if you are a full degree off usually) ? did it go up or down more then 2 degrees? did you check in more then one place in teh incubator? did you calibrate the incubator? what humidity did you hatch at/ lockdown at?" If I can find what did the eggs in, they usualy a/ are grateful for the help b/ get that it isn't the eggs. Some peopel are not worth it, however.

I send a lot of Marans eggs out, that are sensitive to crappy incubators. I can get 100% in a good incubator, even shipped, so if they are a new hatcher, we have " the talk" before I send. But, I was in customer service for a while, so I like to head off problems before they happen.

It all boils down to the same thing, however, shipped eggs are a gamble, and ok incubators do a crappy job on shipped eggs. I am really excited to see what the difference having a Humidor cabinet and brinsea cabinet does to my shipped egg % this year.

I hope everyone cheers up and has a good day. I feel like that a lot during the winter, but we are finally showing signs of SPRING here! It has been in the 40s and up for the last few days, and is warm and sunny! Winter makes me depressed.
You sound happy today! Huzzah!
Sadly that happens alot here with chickens and dogs
Yes, the gelding will cow kick if you get close to him. He will also try to come at you with his mouth open.
We had a house once that teh peopel had left thier old rooster out . WHILE SELING THE HOUSE! he would sit in the sun in the front, obviously had scaly leg mites. Supposedly he was being "picked up any ay now" by a friend. When he was still ther ein a week ( i drove 2 counties to check) I called teh humane socity and they got cited. only a fine, but its somethign to remind them they are evil people.
try Sandhill Poultry
Sandhill makes GFF look chatty. they too are a preservation farm with incubator problems and a phobia of email. But, like gff nice people if you can be paaaaaitent.
I'm so sorry. I think we all feel that way sometimes. Sorry about the P. Bart also.

On a personal note, looks like we are headed to the Mayo clinic next week. We will head out on the afternoon of the 9th. Andy has testing and doctor's consults on the 10th and 11th, and then we make the mad dash back down. 23+ hours of driving in 4 days separated by two days in a hospital = YUCK!

I'm sad for him that it had to be during the day he was supposed to fly out for his personal interview with CA Technology, but the doctors there said it was better not to wait until the next opening of the 22nd.

Keep good thoughts for us, and thanks for all the support.
I bet this is a reasonable reason to get the interview shifted, I bet they will do it! I'm so glad you got in, I have been thinking good thoughts for you about Mayo.

The idea of flying right there might work, too?
Hi ALL!

I am absolutely beside mysefl!!! I have been at the airport TWICE to pick up birds that have not been on the plane
hit.gif
. Now I am missing THREE boxes. 2 boxes from Reese and 1 box from COF. I am just freaked out! Now they are saying the *might* be in Tennessee because of ice. Ice where??? We don't have any ice and we are the coldest place in the country. I am absolutely heartborken!!! I just don't even know how to help or what to do. This is a total of over 75 birds that have gotten on a plane from two different part of the country that are missing!!!!
<hugs> I'm holing out good thoughts for you and your chicks, hope they are doing Ok. I'm SOO sorry you are going through this!

On a separate, and very annoying note, a huge hatch of love bugs occurred today on my porch. Literally, none yesterday, 100s today.

For those of you lucky enough to not know of lovebugs... They are a completely useless and annoying soft bodied black bug that hatches in the spring. They have no purpose, animals, birds an my chickens do not eat them, they hatch in huge hoards, and they have an acid in their bodies that will literally eat the top coat paint off your car if left to dry. If you have to drive anywhere after a big hatch, your windshield will become so coated in them its hard to see, and they are hard to get off.
Yuck.

I heard a long time ago that the UofF "made" lovebugs to try and control the mosquito population...lol, seems to me all they made was another nuisance! I hated lovebug season when I was there.
