Had a sad moment this afternoon. I had 4/11 CCLs from spoiled chicken and madam hatch. I think that I didn't put them into lockdown early enough. They were all fully formed but not totally in position. 2 boys and 5 girls never made it out. Figures that the four that hatched are all boys as well!

Well at least I know for the upcoming lockdown! Those suckers are going to get 4-5 days. I accidentally put some araucanas into lockdown three days early and they ALL hatched. Fingers crossed for next time!

That stinks! Its always the special ones that don't do so well. We have almost all of our black australorps hatch every time. If nothing else hatches... the black australorps will

Madam... hope your feeling better now.

Well my hubby came home last night. He leaves again early Sunday morning. So he figured he would be really good to me and let all the animals out and take care of the horses. But that was the problem.....he let all the ones in quarantine out too! So when I went to check on everything this afternoon I found bloody toms, bloody hens, bloody roosters, and am thinking I'm bloody mad. I know I shouldn't let him do anything on the farm because he knows squat about it. I just got the Basque, SSHs and the SFHs put away and am taking a break deciding what to do about the turkeys. I've only had the new ones about two weeks, but the nice thing about midgets is they are immune to most things other turkeys can get. Or at least that's what I've been told since I've never had a sick turkey. Anyway they have been fighting and working out their pecking order all day and things seem pretty calm right now. Well they are until hubby gets back home. I just need to explain quietly why this is a problem. Well it will be quietly until he says something like what's the big deal they're just birds.

I also just realized my tiny pacific parrotlet is helping himself to my muffin. I think I need some me time.

Oh and I had to dispatch a turkey poult today. It had a slipped tendon that just wouldn't fix. Then I must have put his cast on to tight as his foot was so swollen you couldn't tell it was a foot. It was green and purple and when I touched it it split. I have no problems killing predators, but babies just do me in every time. He never would have developed right, but those needy ones I get attached too. Look at Harvey. Nobody thought she was going to make it. Now she stays til she dies of old age. I can do any other baby easier than a poult. I love my turkeys.

At least your DH (even though he didn't think it out) was trying to help. I know that doesn't fix the situation, but it's a small consolation.

The poult. I'm SO sorry.

Thanks krazy. By the way the other day when you asked me about the turkeys my early warning system went off at 4:30 the next morning.

Here she is
400

I always have a few chicks hatch a couple of days before the poults. I currently have two turkey pips, and apparently missed a few chicken eggs when I was moving them to the hatcher cause one just fell from the shelf it was ridding. Looked in there and found a couple more pips. What a maroon! Poor baby is all sticky dry too. I always label set date, so I have no idea where my head was at.

I had to cull a Spangled Russian Orloff chick for the same reason today. It just wasn't improving at all.... It was my first chick to cull, and yeah, it was hard for me too...

Yeah I know he was trying to be nice. It's just that he has ADHD and only ever remembers ever other word I say. It's usually the the's, ands, buts, and ors, but hey he tries. It's just frustrating dealing with him sometimes. I always joke I'm type A, and so is he just with a few more letters included. Alex is ADHD too, but no where's near like his dad. I think the parenting is a big difference between them. Hubby didn't have the best childhood. I also think that Alex's chickens go a long way in keeping him grounded.

Well time to start the feeding, watering, treating, and hugging. Oh what to do about the newer turkeys......I'll see how they all go in tonight and go from there.
