Just an update…I am coming to terms with the whole MG thing. It is not the end of the world. And because it is so mild of a version of it, (just the occasional sneeze) I am not going to even medicate at this point. Why risk it developing a resistance to the Antibiotics? I may need them later to be as potent as possible if a bird is weakened and becomes susceptible for some reason.
I have unsubscribed from all of the swap threads…even if I offer paypal or pysanky, I can’t just hatch willy-nilly and figure I can get rid of anything in excess of what I want to keep for myself. I have to be more judicious l because once they are here they have to stay here or go to freezer camp. (maybe I will name my farm “hotel California farm!”)
And now I can just love my chickens for who they are, not worry about breeding criteria and making the best choice of who to keep to breed. They all lay eggs, right? And if I want to get a chicken breed because it is pretty, I will get just one to add to the colorful bouquet that is my flock.
I will never have to separate anyone out for breeding. They can all free range all the time. Much simpler day-to day.
Yeah, it isn’t what I planned. I can’t contribute to helping the dorking breed become what they once were or become a respected Barnevelder breeder. I cant play with newly hatched chicks on a regular basis. But life doesn’t always go the way you think it will and I am a lot luckier than a lot of people. I am going to stay subscribed to this thread because I like you guys way beyond just the swapping thing. Yes, I am sad I can’t join in, but I can still share your lives in a small cyber way and I consider myself lucky to have found this group.
And who knows….maybe they will discover a cure someday!
