Jeannie and DH!

He's working me to death!  The pen we are putting in went from a 10x10 to a 10x20.  Got to love my husband for being the enabler of my chicken addiction!

You're so lucky! I'm on my own with the birds. He will help with building projects but with major protest to the point that I don't ask anymore. Probably best that way since I'm better at woodworking than he is! :lau always makes me laugh when guys come over and complement him on things I've built. Like being a girl somehow means I'm less capable of handling power tools :gig silly boys! ;)

Hope you are enjoying him being home. YAY on the bigger pen, you REALLY need to share pictures of you pens sometime.

Super cute itty bitties!!!!!!!!!!!

Worked on a new growout round pen today, moved the Columbian Cochins to a new raised cage with nest box as she is laying almost daily now. Moved the Choc Ban Orps to a new spot, shuffled a momma rabbit and her litter to a bigger cage so the babies can run around more. Oh and dug a hole and sunk a new pond in the ground for the dewlap geese.

tired, off to hand turn 300 goose eggs and get ready to call it night

Big giant bummer today. I had a hen sitting on two eggs (she went broody and I didn't want too many more chicks, so I stuck just two under her) She did a great job incubating them, but one of them this morning was having trouble getting out and I decided to intervene after I finished feeding. By the time I finished feeding, it was dead in the shell. I opened it up and did chest compressions (wacko, I know). It was a really really big chick, not a big wet chick, just a giant brahma mix, there was very little air sac and the shell (a green one) was super thick. If I could have just been a bit quicker feeding, or helped the chick in the egg first, I would have saved it. Makes me feel like such a heel.

Then her other chick hatched and she attacked it! I found it bleeding from its ears. I put it in with my bator chicks that hatched yesterday and it seems okay, but I'm thinking that it may develop some brain swelling or that it may have aspirated some blood. As soon as I took her chick away, she left the coop and didn't even look back. B****!.

Awww, you tried.
