I was in the same boat with horrible hatches until this week.  Bunches of them made it to lockdown and then quit.  But Tuesday,  I had 17  eggs from Donna due to hatch and 15 of them made it wonderfully!  About time things got better!

How many of you put in a copy of your NPIP paper every time you ship chicks?  Of all the birds I've ever received, I have never gotten a copy of the slip for NPIP.  But when my NPIP vet was here in December, he only gave me one copy of the paper for crossing state lines (sorry I don't remember what it's called) and told me that technically, to follow the rules for certification, he would have to come every time I wanted to mail birds and give me a signed form that they were okay for shipment.  Is this what you have been told by yours?

I have several groups of birds that need new homes (light sussex chicks and a SQ gold laced wyandotte cockerel) and I really don't want to have to take time off from work to have him come out and approve them before I can get them in the mail.

The head of our LA NPIP said he would send me a book of the forms. That was in February and I still don't have them. All I have is my certification letter and the testing form. :/

^  Reposting from yesterday.  They weren't clear and after these, I believe I am clear for spring swaps!

Weekend plans?
Depends on if Dewey is working or not.  If he isn't:
 - Truck load of shavings
 - Clean coops
 - Move birds around
 - Build cage bases *
 - Build a new brooder... or two *
 - Move chicks around *
(* are things I can do without him)

Other that the asterisked items, things I can do myself...
 - Clean tote brooders
 - Clean cat carriers and cages for chickens.

I'd also like to move the Khaki Campbells out of the small dog kennel to the big duck pen and move the geese to the large dog kennel.  Or leave the geese as they are and move the ducks to the big kennel... Then, I can move the small dog kennel and try to take real pics of my birds!

I doubt I will get half of that done.  I'm to fat and lazy.  If it's to cold, I won't be doing anything but build brooders and cage bottoms.  Maybe move ducks and take pics.

ETA:  I am considering starting some landscaping around the house, too.  I want to put raised beds in and since I think flower gardens are pointless and a waste of time and effort, I am going to use my beds for veges!  And a few flowers (I have tulips and mums I'd like to keep and I am going to steal viola from my mom for a border).

Sometimes with all the coop brooder shuffle don't you feel like its musical chairs only with coops. Gotta move some to move some to move some.....etc. whew!

I have a dreadful hatch happening now...Nothing. I intend to disinfect my old LGs this weekend, and transfer the remaining eggs into them. Then I can see what's going on. Everyone is developing! Just not hatching. I've tried hatching them in the cabinet, and still using the Hovabator as a hatcher. Lousy hatchs, from developed eggs. I'm murdering clutch after clutch. :( I must sort this out. I'm about ready to quit trying to hatch anything at all.

It has helped me emmensely to stop turning and put in lock down about three days earlier than normal.  I do it day 15 and my hatch rates exploded.
I will try that with the turkey eggs up next. Can't make my hatch rates worse!

Wow! I forget about some at least once a week and they hatch in the incubator, fall to the floor, and indignantly let me know I forgot to move them. Yesterday I found two looking at me through the door.

I'm a bad bad momma!

I got a booklet of forms signed and ready to go. No need for them to come back out for each shipment either.

I wondered what he was thinking when he told me that. I thought, "Well, if you really want to make a two hour drive every couple of weeks..." I wonder if I should email or text. It was Dr. Lalande out of Lake Charles who tested my birds. I need to find out. Maybe I will email him and Mr. Head Honcho.

Yes, yes it does. And it never seems to end!
I was really hoping to have the new coop started by now, but between the weather and lack of help... I think I will have enough lumber for a 12x40 shed with 8 pens. That's the minimum I will accept, so it will have to be at least that. A 14x50 would be better. I wish I could kick my husband and his crap out of the garage. It's a metal 3 car garage that's set up for a wood stove. Heated coop anyone? Heheee

I thought the current rules were the person offering pays. I'm proposing we change the rules.
Perhaps the person offering should just clarify in the offer who pays for shipping if chicks are involved and the number of chicks that will be shipped. It is up to the person claiming the swap to claim offer or not.
