Not once. I had been planning on changing out the turner timer motor, but it's sitting here waiting for a window of time that I don't have eggs in lockdown, lol. I'm too lazy to hand turn all of those eggs, so I said the heck with it.

Yes, yes it does.  And it never seems to end!
I was really hoping to have the new coop started by now, but between the weather and lack of help... I think I will have enough lumber for a 12x40 shed with 8 pens.  That's the minimum I will accept, so it will have to be at least that.  A 14x50 would be better.  I wish I could kick my husband and his crap out of the garage.  It's a metal 3 car garage that's set up for a wood stove.  Heated coop anyone?  Heheee

MINE!

I was weeding our flower border when the rain started pelting. Ugh. I swear, I'm NEVER going to get everything done in time. Need to finish weeding everything around the house, make MORE soap (I need to get 50lbs of GM soap made in the next week, 10-20lbs of salt bar soaps and about 10lbs of laundry soap in about two weeks time), get raised beds in, haul compost (probably 10 loads, all hand shovelled into the bed of my car), get my strawberries planted, buy some apple and peach trees and get them planted, get blueberries/plant, asparagus and more strawberries purchased/planted, then the regular annual stuff, like tomato plants, pepper plants, lettuces, broccoli, beets and green beans. Plus my car needs to have the back tires replaced and the car inspected ($350 if everything else is good!!!) Plus a bunch of other crap. I finally got the equipment I needed to get my bath bombs done (I owe Reese some, plus I need to build a stock up so people aren't waiting for me to make them). Oh, and I need to butcher out the cornish cross hennies that are starting to look rough (I lost one the other night and another is having issues). I could use about a thousand dollars right now to get pens built, raised beds done, plants purchased and FEED!!! These piggies are going through so much feed and many are molting or just refusing to put out the eggs, plus all of the birds that we're growing out, including 9 turkey poults, a bunch of cornish cross, marans, silkies and whatever else I have. PLUS I need to get those pekins hatched and raise at least a dozen of them for replacement hens and freezer meat. Some days I wonder WHY I think that self-sufficiency is such a glamorous endeavour.

I hatched a bunch of chicks last year that were not turned. I went to take the turner out at lockdown and realized it was not plugged in. I panicked, but to my surprise had a fairly good hatch.

Quote: I hand turn mine, but not as often as I am supposed to, and sometimes not at all-I don't think it has ever affected them much.
Calling all Legbar experts. Sorry about the picture quality. Here is what hatched. I know that 2 are male for sure:

Then, there are two like this:

And here they are in a group photo:

Two males and seven females! Perfect!

I see two females that I would absolutely love to hatch-the almost black ones. Mark them and see how they turn out. They will likely be a beautiful silvery-cream. The light brown females always seem to end up gold. For males you want the light silvery-brown chicks and they end up with very little red on them. Excellent job, Tim!

For those of you who use fermented feed, what do you put it in to feed your birds. All my chicks did was walk in it and get shavings all in it. Now they did eat the heck out of it though.
