She is just sloooooow to mature.  The legs turn blue later  with some hormone change.   the question is would she pass the slooow onto her chicks, that would be a bummer.

I think I'm going to leave her in the layer flock, but do you think her eye color will change also?

I love this!

I set 72 mixed duck eggs on 4/2. When I put the 60 that made it this far in the hatcher Saturday around noon I noticed that a lot of them had pipped already.



Saturday night before I went to bed I had a few to hatch already.




Tonight I have 33% hatched already. Day 28 is not until Tuesday.




And to think, I've got 96 chicken eggs to put in the hatcher tomorrow at noon. I need to go buy a couple more rubber tubs and heat lamps in the morning.

Any time I have extra chicken mutt eggs we set them and raise them as replacement layers. The roosters get sold to the Hmong customers for their fall festivals. They purchase at least 5 roosters to every 1 pullet. I would set some, but my Chicago customer came and bought everything I had today. He left with 40 dozen eggs. I prefer to set them over washing, but those layers pay he feed bill.

Wow! I wish we had folks like that up here to take roos! I don't have anywhere near the layer flock you do, although if I had the space I could easily sell the eggs, so I'm going to be quickly maxed out on any new ones I already kept one batch and part of another for layers. I need a big o'le barn bad.

G'morning peeps. It's just drizzling here which is fine with me. Got some top soil from the neighbor last night. Plan to till up the main chicken pen and add some to it. I hand tilled another pen since we can't get the tiller in there and I plan to add some top soil to it as well. Noticed I need to get my butt moving on this wyandotte coop. Some of the girls are starting to redden up.

Good morning everyone!

So I am kinda tossing around the idea of selling my BBS Ams... Currently 8 hens 1 roo. A few responses, usually a few hours away. The latest one asked how much, I told them. Their response was will you take $100. For all of them? I live over an hr away from there.
I can sell them for more than that at our auction. As far as being an hr away? I drive 2 hrs round trip to work everyday. Does that mean I get to leave early every day? Sorry, my vent for the day....
I will try and get pics of my new additions from COF today when I get home...
