As many as I have to feed, it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe I will attempt it. Soon... hmmmm
Krafty if you are still looking I may be doing Brown Leghorns shortly, I have three hens and I am waiting to hear on a rooster, 2 hens are still in quarantine, these lay white eggs of course they are about the size of a white leghorn just a lot prettier.

Krazy this is for you....

This is the only lighter one. And quite the little stinker too!

Here's my Lily.

. Isn't she so pretty? Won't be long for her eggs.

And here's one of the hawks that frequent our farm. The ducks will run around right under them when they are perched there.

The brown are very pretty. They kind of look like the Wellsummers, but with the white earlobe. We still have two girls, but sold our rooster because he was a pansy. The roosters are very pretty too!

I guess I just need to learn how much to make. I generally go through a 50# bag of pellets a day for my grown birds. Sure would be nice to cut that down. I reallllyyyy need to cut back on feed costs, or will be cutting back on birds.
I am letting 8 birds go today, but only getting 2 in return. That's the kind of chicken math I need right now. Except that my bator is almost full. Again.
Yeh we let 6 hens go this weekend out of my egg layers because we are growing out so many Silver Penciled Rocks, Rhodebars, Lemon Cuckoo's, Lavenders, Swedish Flowers(about 25-30) and then the 80 GFF chicks and more coming I had to sell something. It will cut into egg sales temporarily, I guess we will have to eat less eggs as to not make no customers upset. We are using 7 bags a week on layer, and 10 a week on chick oh yeh and one turkey every 2 -3 weeks.

Holy balls! I thought I went through a lot of feed! I had to get off my butt and start getting the brewery grain again so I could keep a budget! I filled those big blue round tubs with it... one's a third gone already, and that's in 29 hours! They eat so much food that it seriously makes me wonder if it's worth it! I don't even have any chicken or duck in the freezer anymore and none are anywhere near ready for butcher.

aww... I like the color...bet that was out of the Royal Palm hen she had...all her toms are bronzes.
So far I haven't kept any turkeys, but I will stop gathering eggs once we move, and let the hens set finally, they can raise them and then I will choose what I keep and the rest will go in the freezer.

Sometimes, it is so hard to be good. So many different chickens I would love to have. Not only that, but it would be nice to have more of the ones that I have decided on (I think I had around 20ish breeds that I had to have, I took it down to four). Then, there are ducks and geese and turkeys too. I just need a few more acres...Last year, DH asked me, while I was sleeping, what I wanted for mother's day. I told him "Chhhiiiiickkkkennnssss." He asked me last night, while awake, what I want this year. Do you think he would buy me a farm? I only need a few more acres...

Ah well, I will continue to be disciplined. Not nearly as much fun though

I cut orders from the CSA at 200 on the Midgets. Yup I'm gonna be in turkey heaven! Good thing those girls lay well. I figure I will need at least 220. That way I can keep some more girls. Midgets lay well for quite a few years, so I don't NEED to. But I must have more turkeys. We will only raise 30 BBWs this year. Probably the same next year as I will still be building my White Holland flock, but then that will be it. I sure will miss the gentleness of the BBWs, but the midgets have some of that same personality.

I figured it was a RP momma by the looks. They are starting to fly over the fence and come looking for me. I'm just a bit worried that they will get hurt by the midgets or the geese though, so they need to stay put for a little while.

What's CSA? my brain can't quite come up with what that stands for...
May need to put a top on the fence to keep the little ones in until they get big enough to fend for themselves, they will be good size birds, I bet her tom weighs about 40 lbs or so.
