Thank you crazypetlady - your eggs were fertile and lots developed! I'm obviously having incubator issues, as most of them got to the hatching point and didn't hatch out, but... I got one little duckle! Yay! So cute!

Tim I'm so glad you love your roo!! I knew he was too nice to eat. Poor Goliath I was calling him Buffy all weekend. He kept me company in the garage while I turned eggs.

I still have 2 nice quality RIR roo's if someone needs one. I have the boxes if you want o pay shipping.

We are calling the butcher for appointment soon . 2 of you asked about the blue Marans roo. We haven't been able to catch him yet, he is roaming the 200 acres of the farm with 4 other roo's who got away from us. A band of Wiley wayward roo's. we are going to attempt to apprehend them again tomorrow. I think my min-pin Jaz has finally got the hang of herding them so hopefully she will help us round them up. There is a barred rock roo that is the ringleader. I know one of you is waiting for a pix of him.

There is 1 black amer too and 2 EE if anyone is looking for a roo let me know and I'll try to get pix tomorrow.

I posted a couple more pics in my Basque album. I have 5 hens in with 1 rooster (aptly named Lucky lol). My girls are no longer on strike!

I have been getting 2 eggs a day for the last couple of days, and they gave us 3 today. I have to be sure of fertility before I can ship, so of course I put a few in the incubator. I'll candle in a few days.

Just because I love this girl, I am posting an older pic of 2 of my Olandsk Dwarf pullets. I lost Cocoa (on the right) when I lost most my flock to a predator. Emmie (left) is my only pullet left. She started laying a couple of weeks ago, but I won't be able to offer eggs until I can replace my other girls. I think Emmie is my favorite bird! She has personality plus and always flies up to my shoulder to greet me when I walk in with treats! Such a sweetie!





We also really love our pair of Sebastopol geese, Curly and Ruffy. They can hear when we pull in the driveway and call for us until we go say hello.

Excuse all the nosey bodies in the background lol...they're part of my mixed laying flock. Most of those guys didn't meet the SOP for their breed, but we love them in all their imperfection.

I have 2 silver laced cochin pullets, a crele polish roo, buff barred polish roo, a paint silkie roo, a blue cochin hen, and a blue cochin roo that had some copper coming in?.... I have a few more black amer. pullets. I am getting some boxes, so all I am asking is shipping costs. I might part with a Buff orp roo I have as well.

GAAAH! I cooked my eggs!!!

I can't believe I did that. Went to candle them this evening (all but three looked to be developing nicely) and in the process unplugged the fan so the incubator wouldn't lose too much heat while open. So what did I do but forget to plug the fan back in!!!

I am so bummed with myself. This is the first time I've had a fan in the incubator and it was nice -- I was getting more stable temps across the entire inside, rather than just in the "sweet spot". So I go back downstairs three hours later for a cup of tea and an egg-turning, and the temp is up to 112. Drat, darn, dang, and a whooooole bunch of other words I can't use in public. I am SO mad at myself!

There goes my perfect hatching record... and my turkey eggs... and my NH eggs. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I can't believe I did that. Yes, the eggs are still in the 'bator, yes I'll be keeping them in for a while on the teeny tiny chance that they're not all completely pickled. But I'm about 99.9% sure they're toast.

That is the worst!!! I was so stressed my first couple of hatches until I could feel more confident that my bators weren't going to do anything crazy on me...depending on how long the temp was that high there's always a chance that the inside of the eggs didn't get all the way up there...since there is a lag in air temp vs. temp inside the egg there is always a chance...I had one bator get up to 106 once but because I caught it in time I don't think the eggs got that high and they ended up being just fine. Fingers crossed for you!!

Well hope you left them in there.... I have heard plenty of tales of over heated or under heated eggs that still get some to hatch.

We are now 2 months into this thread and we would like to make sure that everyone is meeting their obligations in a timely manner. If you have claimed eggs before Nov. 1st (unless the offer stated there would be a delay) and have not received them or a DC# that they have been sent, please PM me with the details. If you have claimed PP and it has not been sent within 3 days, also let us know. We will try to make sure we keep on top of any trends.


Here are this week's current standings as of 6:20AM, Thu. Nov. 15. For all potential new swappers, we welcome your participation, but please read the rules on page 1, post #1 of this thread.

Game #1 - Whenever someone goes over 7 swaps, they lose 2 swaps the following week. The first person to catch it and post "Jinx"- (name of person going over), gets an extra swap in the current week. If crazypetlady (CPL) goes over, everyone gets an extra swap that week, and the first person to catch her and post "Jinx-CPL" gets a special prize of eggs from CPL. Start stalking!


Game #2 - Whoever claims the 50th, 75th, and 100th swap of the day (yes, I think we will get up that high this spring or before) will win an extra wild card swap to be used in the winner's week of choice.
