I'm unsupervised all winter.

It will be easy to grow out chicks and have them in the flock before he has time to notice!

Tim I'm so glad you love your roo!! I knew he was too nice to eat. Poor Goliath I was calling him Buffy all weekend. He kept me company in the garage while I turned eggs.

I absolutely love him!!! I was bragging about him to my mom, dad, and grandma last night. lol

GAAAH! I cooked my eggs!!!

I can't believe I did that. Went to candle them this evening (all but three looked to be developing nicely) and in the process unplugged the fan so the incubator wouldn't lose too much heat while open. So what did I do but forget to plug the fan back in!!!

I am so bummed with myself. This is the first time I've had a fan in the incubator and it was nice -- I was getting more stable temps across the entire inside, rather than just in the "sweet spot". So I go back downstairs three hours later for a cup of tea and an egg-turning, and the temp is up to 112. Drat, darn, dang, and a whooooole bunch of other words I can't use in public. I am SO mad at myself!

There goes my perfect hatching record... and my turkey eggs... and my NH eggs. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I can't believe I did that. Yes, the eggs are still in the 'bator, yes I'll be keeping them in for a while on the teeny tiny chance that they're not all completely pickled. But I'm about 99.9% sure they're toast.

OH NO!!!! I'm so sorry to hear that!!! I sure hope you have some fighters in there who make it!

The name fits him perfectly. Beautiful boy.

Thanks! I thought so too! I was thinking, what do you name a Buff Orpington... I thought, Buffy sounds like a girls name. Then, I started thinking how big he is and Goliath popped into my head right off the bat.

Hey, everyone. I have two eggs left in my incubator from the disastrous power outtages. They were due to hatch on the 13th and looked good at lockdown. How long do I give them before giving up? I only have one left of CJ's NJ and really hate to give up on the tough little dude.

I would wait another day or two. I have one Buff Orpington hen's eggs who ALWAYS insist on hatching 2 days early. I also have a Dominique hen whose eggs insist on hatching a day late. These eggs will be in the incubator on the same tray and same temperature the whole time and still hatch at different times. So, there is still hope...

I would also wait another day or two. I had some incubator problems and several bulb breaking, power outage and had some of the eggs hatch on day 25. I would, however, give them a smell to be sure you don't get a smelly surprise in the bater.

My BLWR, or at least one of them has started laying again. Maybe they will all get the hint.

That's great to hear!! Have yours talk to mine.

I ****might**** have found some Coronation Sussex hens about 2 1/2 to 3 hours from me for sale. I hope I can get them to go with my overabundance of cockerels. lol... Only problem is my cockerels aren't growing up fast enough to breed with the hens until spring. What am I going to do without any hatching eggs to incubate until spring??? I don't want to get many more if any eggs in the mail for fear of them freezing, but I can't even imagine turning the incubator and hatcher off. lol...
