9gerian... that sounds like conversations I have with my DH... haha

sorry to whoever lose a pullet, I lost track... I had a couple of nights when I was freaking out trying to find a bird, one night it was a black bantam cochin, she was way up on top of the wire under the eaves of the coop, it was dark out, good thing I had a flashlight, or I would have missed her... recently one of my Delawares somehow got out (I don't usually have too many flying birds, but occasionally)... and she was crammed up under the tarp that covers the straw and hay I have outside the coop to keep it dry during the winter.... I was so relived to find them!

I don't really have predators around, so my run is not covered, but has a 6ft tall fence... but today I saw a hawk (first one I've seen) flying rather low... I'm going to have to come up with something, apparently!!

yes, I love doing them! Pysanki are the reason I got into raising chickens. storebought eggs dont take the dye evenly (conveyer-belt roller compression rings) and have thin shells. and the local backyard egg people around here do mostly brown eggs...I need white.

so I got dorkings. which I love...so friendly and level-headed (for chickens) and Barnevelders because I think they are gorgeous.

and I discovered all the other pretty chickens out there and I want one of everything...LOL. like flowers in my yard that move around. I now also have Welsummers and marans and a lone americauna that is a sweetheart. who knew Chickens could be so addictive?

(hmmm...I wonder if I offered pysanki eggs in trade if people would want them....)
Umm..yes! Me for one :) What Ya Got Swap thread and side swaps, most definitely!

Hawks are bad. Bald Eagles are worse :( And I thought they were soooooo cool... until they took off with some of my chickens! Now we're no longer on friendly speaking terms, but on screamy, wave my arms and run around all crazy-like terms. With the yaks and the guardian dog, I really don't have any land predator issues for the birds... but the sky-borne predators stink.

Bullet, my Tibetan Yak bull at 37 months - he's older now

The herd in April

And some of the younger girls with Yoko in the background. They graze AND browse :)

You can ship rabbits air, but it's usually cheaper to find transport with someone roadtripping or through uship :)

I chose the Silver Fox because they're "Threatened" on the ALBC list, and their pelts are unique, plus they're considered a commercial meat type, too.

Cool!!! I will photo some of my current eggs tonight and I am in the mood to make more, so I will start making up dyebaths. I can usually do one per evening barring breakage or a couple if I am doing simple two-color ones for hanging on the Christmas tree.

got up early because I'm so psyched to have found you guys!
