Sounds like you need to ask Santa for a bigger incubator.

I plan to go down my list once my birds are laying. I will send an email asking if it is convenient about a week before I send them. If not convenient, I will skip them and have them send me a message when they are ready. I will NEVER send eggs until I hear from someone.
That sounds like a good policy, imo. I'm trying to plan dates carefully, allowing extra time between for late hatchers etc. Eggs need to rest before setting anyway, but I'm doing my best to keep it all straight. Candled tonight and have a handful of Orpington eggs developing now that I hope will continue on to hatch.

A bit off subject....but i am on the downhill battle of some kind of extremely terrible 12 hour stomach problem. I have not gotten ill in years. I thought the flu shot was supposed to stop illness.

Oh no... could it be something you've eaten? I am not sure about the flu shot.. perhaps it isn't the flu? I hope you feel better!

Sorry to hear that! Hope you get better soon! (Flu shots do not work nearly as well as they would have you believe.)

Sorry, posted too soon. I also meant to say that most usually when we get sick with the "stomach flu", it isn't the flu at all, usually it is food poisening or the like. Most of the time, a flu is more like a really bad cold with a fever.

So sorry your not feeling well. It's the pits to be sick on a holiday. There has been some sort of cough thing going around our school. Its been 2 weeks on the couch propped up to sleep. Hope you feel better soon...

I'll say a prayer for you tonight...

Does anyone have Cochin, Polish, and Buff Orpington that are all laying now? I have an order for Christmas Eve chicks of these breeds as well as Silkies, Legbar, and Easter Eggers. I would love to get them all at the same time-by December 1.

Received 8 Basque eggs from Mzstre.  3 were crushed other 5 look to be in really good condition.  They are resting to go in the incubator tonight.  Keep your fingers crossed.

I'm sad that 3 didn't make it. I've been rethinking my packing since it was my first time. I have a theory about what may have gone wrong. I would love feedback from everyone. I wrapped each egg in a 12" x 12" bubble wrap that formed a "tube" with open ends. I filled the open ends with shredded paper and stood the eggs up in the box. I filled in all remaining spaces with shredded paper, and I think I may have packed too much in the spaces. Do you think if I filled the spaces too much it would have caused it to not have enough "give" and put too much pressure on the eggs? That's the only thing I can come up with since caj mentioned in her PM that the box was ok. What do you think?

Caj- I like your idea about double boxing. I think I'm going to try a few different methods to see which one works best. Do you have room in your bator for a few more eggs?
