Pullorum Typhoid is passed to egg by a carrier hen. Most chicks die- ones that survive become carriers. NPIP would protect you from that.
I try to ony get NPIP since my flock is tested- but I have risked it, as chicks are separate from the flock for a while. If I where to have a bunch of chicks die, I would have to cull the remaining to protect my flock. Then I would go in lockdown to sanitize and eradicate.
I plan on going to a swap this month to sell some quail an stuff- I have already decided I won't be bringing anything back due to close contact with other people's birds that may not be certified, even if I have to give them away.
