Pullorum Typhoid is passed to egg by a carrier hen. Most chicks die- ones that survive become carriers. NPIP would protect you from that.
I try to ony get NPIP since my flock is tested- but I have risked it, as chicks are separate from the flock for a while. If I where to have a bunch of chicks die, I would have to cull the remaining to protect my flock. Then I would go in lockdown to sanitize and eradicate.
I plan on going to a swap this month to sell some quail an stuff- I have already decided I won't be bringing anything back due to close contact with other people's birds that may not be certified, even if I have to give them away.

I am waiting to be seen to be NPIP Certified. What exactaly will they do when they come out? I always have my birds tested before putting them in show and they have always shown clean. Will they test EVERY bird, or a sample. Will they do my peafowl also??

They did a sampling for the Pullorum Typhoid, and every bird I wanted to use for a breeder for A1. Ummm, maybe it was the other way around. I can't remember. But yes, they do test every bird you want to use in a breeding program for one of the things. I only had 12 or so birds tested, and once he got set up/ it took him no time at all. He swabbed their mouths and took a blood sample from the under side of the wing. The blood sample test is done on site- and it is only done on a sampling of the birds. The swab is sent to the lab and took three weeks to get the results back

Do they do the chicks also? Over all I have 8 peafowl and 46 adult birds (penned for breeding), 21 chicks and 7 or 8 old silkies that I just let run amok. I also have rabbits. Will they test them for anything as they are in the same barn?

Would anyone be interested in full aprons for Christmas gifts? I am working on two of them tonight-hoping to have at least one done by bedtime. I will post pictures tomorrow sometime. They will be $25 which includes shipping.
