hatching geese eggs

Hi

Hmmm... the time since peeping is a little worrying, hold the egg to your ear and see what you can hear. In the meantime read this previous thread

Well I could not hear anything so I am really upset now. I will read the post that you suggested now. Thank you so much.

I am very grateful to you for that wonderful thesis. I would not hesitate to publish your writting, as it was very helpful and needed. I am thinking of warming the house and candleing them real quick. I am praying for a good outcome in memory of Mother Goose.

I will let you know how it goes. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you..........

3 of the 4 eggs from my Embdens have pipped internally, the other egg looks like it quit some days ago. The air cells are very small on these eggs so I'm sure hoping they make it!

Shelleyd2008 - Thats good to hear about your Embdens Shelley - I wouldnt even think of putting them into lockdown until external pipping so they have a chance to lose more moisture. At least they're in the aircells and breathing so thats one major hurdle. Moisture loss in eggs has been a real problem in the UK too from what I hear. Good luck with them

I have a question, I am getting some dewlap eggs on Thursday may 5 th , I have two roman ruffed geese that will have been sitting on eggs for 14 days at that point, can i place the new eggs under them and put their eggs in a bator, their eggs were given to me embden mixes, will they sit an additional 14 days, don't know what to do.............very new to geese...................

Thanks You

Allen

Hi Allen

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND putting your new Dewlap eggs under a reliable broody goose and if you've got 2 then divide the eggs. They should sit for another 14 days but you could always take them after 12 days and place them in the incubator. Your other eggs will be fine going into artificial incubation as long as its running stable and at the correct settings for temperature and humidity.

I would weigh the Dewlap eggs and keep careful records of weight loss once they're in the incubator.

Good luck

Out of 5 embden eggs I've had 3 quitters at the last stage. The air cells on all 3 were fine and there were no indications that there might be a problem. What kind of stuff could cause them to quit within a day or two of hatch date? I have 3 more to go within the next week, so I'd like to avoid screwing them up

The original Dewlap goslings are already 10 days old. The male hatched at 100 grams and today weighs 525 grams, he's going to be a big boy at this rate
