hatching geese eggs

Didn't realise this was were everyone had gone! My 6 Dewlaps are just starting to change positions for the internal pip (having now absorbed in detail the Dewlap hatching guide!), candled this morning and the air sack is dipping on a couple but I'm quite panicy now that the air sack still isnt large enough, will extra cooling and spaying help at all?

Hi Mtacagni

Im pleased to see you on the forum again

What days are your Dewlaps on and what incubation settings have you been using?

Hey everyone. I hope all is going well. Just a quick note before I go to work. 4 goslings this morning with other pips all over inside the bator. It sounds like bad band music inside the bator. Will check with everyone when I get some time at work.

Wow - you're well away Bookerdog

My toulouse eggs are on day 13. Of the original 11, I have 4 left- two weren't fertile, 9 started developing and of these 5 died off early. That leaves me with 4 that appear healthy and active so far. I am doing dry incubation also.

Hi Countrychix

Thats a pity about the other eggs dying off. What is your temperature setting at the moment?

Hi Pete,
I'm on day 26, this is my 4th batch, they have been dry incubated from about day 4 at 37.4 oC, I've been cooling them daily but didn't start misting them until about a week ago (batch 5 has been done properly from day one sir!!). One of the eggs air cell is way too small the others I'm hoping are just about big enough, I stopped turning them yesterday, a couple of the air cells are starting to dip, I shall check them again later tonight.
In my batch 5 which are at day 20, ones air cell is in the middle and has been that way all along, another already has the dip in the air cell and has had it for about a week, have they got any chance of surviving?

Just keep to daily cooling for 15 minutes until those goslings internally pip and confirm this by listening for the clicking noise. Yes the other eggs have a chance and I've also got a Dewlap with an abnormal air cell on its side! It's on day 22 now and I've stopped turning it with the air cell uppermost. Additionaly I've raised the blunt end to about a 25 degree angle to encourage the gosling to go into a normal hatch position. Only being turned side to side in the auto turner. Its a good sized air cell but on its side like yours!

So YES they've got a chance. Think of the breech chicks that go against all the rules and externally pip without any access to an air cell

Keeping my fingers crossed for you
