I have 8 eggs that are hatching out today. I have the incubator on lockdown and I sadly had to open it after the cat knocked into it and caused the eggs to hit into one another. One of my eggs had some blood come out of where it pipped at. The chick is still talking and I can see it moving and thankfully the bleeding has stopped but I'm very scared it did damage to the chick. Is there anything I should do or look for?

Also, I have one egg that stopped moving altogether, no sounds or anything. I tried a quick water test and there was no movement. I'm worried it may have passed since it seems the chick's head was at the point and not at the air cell. I'm leaving it in the incubator in hopes that it's not dead but what are the odds it's still alive?

I know that as a first-time incubator-person that not all babies will live and if I have 7 out of 8 live it would be amazing. Yet, Sunday is my birthday and I really want all of them to live and hatch.

Chicks sometimes sit down to rest. That's fine. He might just not feel like moving at this moment.

As for the bloody egg, the veins just aren't quite sealed yet. The chick absorbs the blood as the hatching progresses, but for a while, there's going to be veins on the inside of the egg shell. If one broke, and it already stopped bleeding, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Good luck and Happy Birthday!

Oh, thank you ^^

I was so worried that it might have died in the shell. I'll give it more time and just keep a watchful eye for any pipping. As for the blood one, I didn't know that they could bleed like that at all if it was just knocked around. I made sure the cat can no longer get to the incubator.

As of this morning, we had 2 hatched out chicks. The one with the bloody shell hasn't hatched yet but is still peeping inside the egg. We had a duck egg hatch overnight and it looks like it failed to absorb all it's yolk as there's a small bean sized amount half absorbed on its butt/belly, it's very talkative. I read on here to put it back in its shell, inside a cup with a warm wet cloth over it to keep it from drying and to leave it alone in the incubator. So I did that and hoping that it'll be okay.

The other eggs are showing no signs of movement still but I'm going by what you said as they might be just getting ready to hatch.
