Hatching in Classrooms

Pics
That is great. I used to take them home too when I hatched them. Sometimes I found a kid whose parents were interested in having them. First, of course, I checked out the parents to make sure it was a good and permanent home for them. There were other people in my school who did a hatching and made no plans for the chicks, not a wise or kind thing to do.

I'll be hatching my spring chicks in some of the 3rd grade class rooms. But first they have to fill the jar with marbles... Meaning they have to be good! Lol

BEST motivation ever for students to make good choices

When I hatch, my kiddos earn "chick time" by making good choices and using their "listening ears"...LOL! They are 4/5 year olds

The preschoolers were acting very poorly the other day. The teacher used the chicks to her advantage. Every time someone took a toy, hit, or misbehaved in any way she would tally it on the board. She told them every tally is a chick going home with me. I took home 13 chicks! Some kids cried but there were 10 left so they still had a chance to prove they could be good enough to keep the chicks. Today NO chicks had to go home! She said they were like little angels. Sharing, using manners, using nice words and listening! It worked better than any of us thought it would!

Here are some pictures of the ones I brought home. My daughter really wanted them to be naughty today so she could take more chickens home!

She is so excited that they all come home tomorrow! She asked if she could come home when they do... at noon. Uh no. Nice try though! I think if she could have she would have went to the class and started ten problems to get the chicks home.

I wish I could do this! I teach in an after school program of sorts... sadly I have no idea where to get fertile eggs here and I would have no home to give the chicks after they hatched. I hate reality!

Very brave, doing this with 4-5s, those kids can be demons. Glad you had so much luck!

Most of the kids are 3 years old. There is a few 4-5 but most this is their first year in school! I've been in there a LOT guarding the incubator and now the chicks! LOL

Ouch! That's worse than I thought, at least 4-5s can be reasoned with. Did you break out the cattle prods and barbed wire? My 3s treat everything as free game. Admittedly, I can't actually reason with my 3s, they don't speak English ^^;; We're working on it! (I teach EFL)
