This is my first hatching and I was able to get these eggs semi-locally (a couple hours to drive to get them). I began incubating them (a dozen of each breed) on the 7th with a couple forced air homemade incubators. One incubator is perfect and stabilized at 99.5 thanks to a computer fan and dimmer.

The other kept getting up to 102 even with the fan (I was planning on getting a dimmer the next store run). I candled today with a flashlight (just ordered my candler today).

The lavender orpingtons look beautiful, which were the ones at 99.5. My 3 & 5 yr old daughters and I were able to see the eye developing, the veins were defined, and the air pocket was right on track. They squealed with excitement because the babies were "looking at them". 3 of the 12 were darker so I couldn't see well, but fingers crossed that they are good!

Then we checked the blue laced red wyandottes and my heart sank. The first one had a very defined blood ring (which I tossed), 3 of them had veins and a good air pocket, and all the others were too dark for me to see. I switched them over to the incubator with the lav corps (was this wise?) So hopefully I did it in time that some will hatch. Has anyone ever gone through anything like this?

I'm also getting a hovabator and silkie hatching eggs tonight, so fingers crossed that everything goes well with them.

So far everything is a lot more stable temp and humidity wise. I have the hovabator at a constant 100 and the humidity in both are in the 40's. It's amazing how much better you can breath with working equipment. I'm counting down to the 24th (when my candler comes in) so I know how the littles are doing.. which is perfect timing because the 25th is lockdown! I have the silkies in the hovabator and they will be joined by quail eggs on monday.. their lockdown will be the 31st!

I candled today and I have 9/12 lavender Orpingtons that are right on track and have movement ❤. Its so sweet to see them. Only 1 of my blue laced red wyandotte looks on track.. However, the lady I got them from said there was another customer that got eggs a couple days after me and only a few were even fertile (I only saw veins in 3 of mine). So she is going to give me another dozen and we are going to hope for better luck! Fingers crossed that I have 10 beautiful babies next week!

I have 11 silkies that are right on track and 14 quail that are also on track. Lockdown for them will be the 31st!
