I just realized that my pheasant and chicken eggs go in the hatcher at the same time. I have 16 chicken eggs and 15 pheasant eggs so no problem space-wise (sportsman incubator) but will it be a problem pecking-wise? I can always put the pheasant eggs in the LG if necessary. OK to hatch together or should I separate them?

I have not had any problems either. Right now I have 12 2-week olds in a brooder that all hatched out together and 1 is a pheasant and the other 11 are bantams. There is also 2 peacock chicks in there with them that are the same age that were hatched out by a broody bantam hen. In another brooder, I have 22 less than a week old chicks, 4 of which are pheasants. All of these were hatched out by various different bantam hens.

I have 2 incubators full with bantams and pheasants. One is set to hatch out on Thursday, but it is a staggered hatch (4 have already hatched out) Again, I do not expect any problems. They all seem to get along when they are the same age.

I've Never Had Any Problems, But The Chickens Will Hatch Few Days Before The Pheasant Eggs, So You May Have Brooder Problems? I Have Had Cochin Babies That Liked To Pick On Smaller Game Bird Babies In The Brooder...

So far I have not had any problems with them picking on each other. The pheasants are smaller than the chicks and the chicks are smaller than the peachicks but everybody seems to get along just great. Yeah, the chicks hatch out first, I have about 6 pheasants to hatch out after the 24 or so chicks hatch out on Thursday. 4 chicks have already hatched out.

Good to know - thanks! One set goes in the hatcher 6/28 and the other 6/29 so we'll see what happens.

Gamebirdsonly - these are the pheasant eggs you sent me so I'll be sure to let you know how they do.

Thanks all!!

I have one Lady Amherst pheasant male and tried to put him (6weeks old) with my Blue Laced Red Wyandottes chicks (4 weeks old and still bigger than him), and the chicks pecked at him until he was screaming. I don't think they (the chickens) like the nervousness that the pheasant brings to the bunch, because he is constantly pacing back and forth and walking on top of them with no regard for their space.

I ended up separating them until he matures a bit more and can protect himself from those mean roo's, or wanna-be roo's.

I have seen many people raise them together without any problems, but watch for the rooster chicks, they can be a bit prejudice of other species of animal, or anything that looks different.

Yeah, when I put mine together they are only just hours old and generally have all hatched together, at least within a day or two. I would imagine I would get different results if I threw older birds in together!
