Hello Everyone
Thought I might share this with you. We had chickens at our old farmhouse for many years, always hatching our own eggs. We'd collect them in an egg carton (specially marked), and keep them in the fridge. When we had a dozen, we'd put them under a broody hen and 21 days later, voila! A dozen little chicks. Quite amazing, since some were refrigerated for a couple of weeks. Anyone else done this, or is it an English thing?

Although I've grabbed eggs from the fridge to throw in the incubator, I never purposely stored the eggs in the refrigerator for future hatching.
Generally speaking I just keep the eggs in a carton on the floor in the corner of my living room where it's cool and out of the way.

By the way, I used to live in the Shenandoah Valley (close to Staunton) and LOVED it!
That's one of the most beautiful places to live!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I have heard of this before. I have never tried it, but some people claim they have great hatches from refrigerated eggs!

Good luck with all your poultry adventures and welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X2,check some of the Trader Joe type threads for people who have hatched eggs from grocery stores etc. A lot depends on the temperature of the fridge, think that some of the modern ones get and stay consistently colder than the older ones.

Thanks everyone for the great welcome! When we were hatching our fridge eggs, they were a combo of all sorts, but mostly RIR and Plymouth Rocks. It was just a very low-tech way to be more in control of chick hatching.
