Hating Waste As I Do.... (Pic, post #17, Top Complete)

Nice job, Cyn!!

As for quilting it on the machine, besides the free motion style of machine quilting, you also have the option to do very simple straight line quilting such as diagonal lines or Stitch in the Ditch.

Oh, it's great! I love it! You can machine quilt very easily .... really, you can! Do you have a walking foot? (That just makes is soooo much easier). Just stitch in the ditch, and you will be done in no time. OR .... this would be a great time to try, "free motion," quilting! Just drop the feed dogs and stitch anything you want (or you could mark on it what you want to stitch)!

Very nice baby quilt! I don't know how you get so much done, woman!

Yeah, I have a walking foot and I tried it once, but just couldn't make the quilt move through the machine well. I'll have to try again because I need to be able to at least machine quilt small things like this in order to get more done. Kathy, you may recognize that fuchsia material as well as a few others in there.

I love those colors! They look great, especially with the black.

Once you figure out the walking foot it really works well. When I tried it the first time (years ago) I got frustrated with it, only to find out later that I didn't have it on correctly. Now I love it.

I really love scrappy quilts....and yours is delightful.
What about the old fashioned way of quilting with the rainbow lines....you start at one end and sew a series of 1/3 circle arcs making each arc larger. A series of 8 - 10 lines. Then move over and sew another set of arcs until the quilting is finished..... hope I made that explanation clear......my MIL did many quilts this way and they are treasures.

I still can't seem to get the "sandwich" through the machine, even for straight lines. It bogs down on me for some reason. It would be so nice to machine quilt these small projects, especially the ones I want to sell, but honestly, I do prefer the look of hand quilting, generally. Just takes sooooo long! I bought some cotton batting at Hobby Lobby today for it. Have one baby quilt to get finished, then I'll start on quilting this one.
Nanakat, I've done the rainbow lines before, years ago.

Machine verses hand would depend who it is for. My Grandma hand stitched a quilt for me and I would not sell it for anything> A machinechine stiched quilt is on the bed for daily use, but the hand stitched is only for when it gets really cold, and I know my Grandma is keeping me warm. Jmho.
