Hating Waste As I Do.... (Pic, post #17, Top Complete)

I agree with you about hand quilting. While it does take a long time, every stitch is made with love.

SpeckledHen...did you get their Warm and White needled cotton batting?
I think it needles just like butter and there is no bearding. I love it for hand quilting and have even used it on the machine.
Hancock's also carries it here and I get it in quantity when they have their 40% off sales. I also get it in the "natural" color for old fashioned quilts.

Its Hobbs Heirloom Premium Cotton batting, 80% cotton, 20% poly. Says it's lightly needle punched. Gosh, I wish we had a Hancocks or JoAnn Fabrics anywhere within an hour's drive from here, but alas, no. I usually have to settle for whatever Walmart has.

You're lucky. All the Walmarts around here are getting rid of their fabric departments. Guess I'll have to work on the fabric stash for a while.

What a beautiful quilt! My mom picked up a box of fabric at a yard sale down the street from us today for $5, I have to go through it but it has some really pretty fabrics in it. I've seen most of them I think at either Wal Mart or Hobby Lobby.

Kate, poly blend fabrics just feel slick to me and have a sheen, more so than good old cotton. I buy all new fabric and it's marked on the bolt, so I don't have much trouble knowing I have all cotton.
